As recently posted, I've been suffering since start of May with what I'm hoping is diverticulitis flare, very severe lower back pain, same leg pain, mushy bowel, but I'm wondering if anyone else gets rectum pain aswell, I can't put it down to straining as my bm are so loose, I'm due to see the gi surgeon in a week and am hoping he will agree to do a colonoscopy, this rectum pain is very scary, can diverticulitis really cause painful n in so many places, any help would be appreciated

Hi Madelene,
Tks for your reply, I find sitting painful even if my bowel is empty, do you know what antibiotics you were put on in hospital, I have just finished a week of cipro, did absolutely no good at all, I had colonoscopy in 2015,thats when they said I had diverticulitis, I remember the awful lower back and leg pain backbthen but not this horrendous rectum pain, I suppose that's why I'm so worried, hope you are feeling good at moment, really appreciate your help

Fresh vegetables and fruits are a BIG no no with Diverticulitis. Canned fruits (no seeds) & canned vegies such as green beans, carrots are ok. Red neat is also not good.

You are right everyone is different. My case was my Diverticulitis pockets were so condensed in one area it actually became one huuuge pocket with lots of scar tissue which also caused a partial blockage . At the time of my colonoscopy I was told I had 3 pockets. . . . nothing to worry about. Even then I knew something was wrong. I was on a very small soft foods diet list, couldn't get beyond it. I did learn quickly to eat in moderation, basically stuck to the rule of eating nothing more than a few bites. Fresh fruit, veggies were a big no no for me. Because of the blockage I had to take Milk of Magnesium every morning to ensure there wasn't any backup. This diseases varies with everyone because everyone's situation is different. Try to control your cravings because this disease is nothing to mess with. One craving could easily kill you.

Hi Glenda
Just reading you tread, sorry you suffer so much too, you mentioned leg, bum and back pain, I'm suffering same since first of May, just woke up with a pain in my back, the rectum pain has been horrendous, loose bowel, hardly able to walk with pain and weakness in my legs, I'm due to see the specialist next Tuesday, I'm terrified it's something worse than diverticulitis as the pain has been so bad, any tips on a good pain killer, I can't take ibuprofen as I have acid reflux
