Can not control ibs looking for any advice

Hi, Iv had ibs now for around 6 years. Managed with the right food most of the time. At the beginning of March I had a bad case of tonsillitis and was in bed for 4 days and ate nothing. Since then my ibs has been awful. Every day with nearly unbearable pain, I’m at the point where I’m panting like when I’m Labour to get through it. It’s really beginning to get me down. I don’t want to go anywhere because I literally get 60 sec warning and I need to be on the loo. I suffer with depression and anxiety so don’t need any more reasons to not leave the house.

This is very hard for me and I feel so silly getting so down about going to the toilet! But it’s Upwards of 6 times a day. What can I do? Any advice muchly apricated.x

Have you heard of the low Fodmap diet?  Look up the Monash University version developed in Australia.  You can also try a food diary. Have you tried antispasmodics such as Buscopan and have you tried Nurofen?  Try Imodium for diarrhoea.  You can also try bananas, rice or codeine to bind you up more.

Did you take antibiotics for the tonsilitis? If so that's probably what's mucked you up. You could try probiotics for this.

Take antispasmodics and Imodium, and eat a plain diet for a few days with no fruit and veg, very low fat, to help things settle down.

Hi, yes antibiotics can cause gut issue's, I reckon it was antibiotics started my IBS, I was on them for sepsis and 3 months for another issue, antibiotics destroy good bacteria as well as bad.

Hi, You could try Chia seeds, they have lots of fibre in, soak a 2 tablespoons for about 1 hour in a glass of water, they will go glutinous add a bit juice for taste stir well and drink, peppermint enteric coated capsules could help, check out the FODMAP diet.
