Can this all be in my head?

Hi everyone,

so I haven't been officialy diagnosed with IBS, but I've been having stomach problems for almost 4 years now.. mostly pain after eating, bloated A LOT and windy. I also have a huge problem with going to the bathroom, it's very stressing for me and I have a tendency to hold it in. I suffer from constipation very often.

My question though is - can this all be in my head? All my medical results are okay, I don't have any health issues.

Also, I might have a depression. Lately I have no appetite, I feel very sad and pesimistic. I've been struggling as I am studying abroad and it's been a really hard time for me.

Do you guys think, that if I manage to get out of that mental state (with the help of a therapist) my stomach issues will dissapear?

Love for all of you.

I was diagnosed just this week with IBS. I've had Gerd and gastritis for years. It's not all in your head but improved mental state can Def help this condition. I started on anti depression meds today to see if it would help me. If u can go on u-tube my dr. Has 12 videos about IBS. Dr. Steven Faber , watch those it will help you.

    Hi

My opinion would he to seek a definitive diagnosis....

I know IBS is only diagnosed after all other illnesses and diseases are removed from the equation but with out this you may not ever move on....

IBS is a very real problem I have suffered for over 15 years I have only realised whike looking back over my life...

I was diagnosed in April....Officially.... since the diagnosis my symptoms have reduced 99 %

Before that diagnosis I has all sorts of terrible symptoms brought on my health axeity and stress.

IBS is not in your head but it will not show in scans because it is a functional disorder of the bowel. It is a real condition. IBS doesn't simply clear up even with a therapist.  The most you can hope for is that a therapist will help you to relax and give you coping mechanisms to help you manage your IBS, if that's what you have. Managing stress does improve IBS. Some people do get rid of it but most people will have periods of remission and flare ups.

Your symptoms do sound like IBS, however it is imporrtant to get an official diagnosis from your doctor,  See your doctor again and push for a diagnosis.  IBS can be confirmed when all your tests are normal. Ask about IBS.

aleksandra--Your mental state has everything to do with your bowel health. Look into diet and lifestyle adjustments and be advised that antidepressant meds have side effects; constipation being one so be prepared and proactive, Also be patient, it can take several weeks before you notice an improvement in your mood.
