As I have posted before I have been diagnosed with diverticular disease but I have been lucky that I have not had any serious flare ups, just persistent slight pain and discomfort in the lower left abdomen for nine months now. No other symptoms. Sometimes it is hardly there and I get all excited that it has at last gone! But then it comes back, like today, hurting and even hurting down my left leg, like a nerve is involved. Just wondering if any one has these mini flares of pain. Cannot find any link with food or drink. No fever and not intense pain, but pain none the less.

Hi Alison. I have exactly the same symptoms as you and have had low level pain persistently for some months without fever or any other symptoms.
Like you, it disappears for a few weeks and I fall into the trap of thinking that it has gone but then it comes back again. I saw a private Professor who specialises in DD a few weeks ago and all he said was " it will be an inconvenience and take buscopan"!! A vey expensive non helpful consultation! I cannot find a link with any foods as yet but am certain it is food related. I am seeing a dietician in a couple of weeks. Having read some of the pain some people on the forum have to deal with makes me think I am luckier than some and am extremely gratful. I have never had to take antibiotics for this but as you rightly say it is pain albeit low level.

Hi Alison
Suggest you google "SUDD diverticular disease" as I suspect that is what you have. It is basically exactly as you describe and is a form of Diverticular Disease. I have come to suspect that is what I have, as I just get niggling pain from time to time, but no other symptoms since my flare up August 2016, which took 10 months to settle. I was diagnosed via colonoscopy and CT Scan.

Hi, yes I have mini flare ups exactly as you say & hurting down my left leg it feels like nerve pain. All so discomfort on the lower left hand side where the small bowel is.

Thank you all! It is good to know that others have similar symptoms, though, of course, I would not wish them on anyone else! It is interesting to read about SUDD of which I have never heard before! My pain is really not colicky though, more constant when it is 'bad' and twinges at other times. It is also not helped by having a bowel movement There are times, in fact, when I feel a bowel movement upsets the area!
Like Twinster says, I too am so grateful that I have not experienced the terrible pain that some do. Or the diarrhea.
It it is just annoying that nothing can really be done about it.
