Cane use, need help

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi, hope you are all having a good day. I am 5 months post op from rtkr and as most of you know my bone on bone left leg started really hurting. I am using my cane. My problem is , can I alternate using the cane as both legs feel bad. Is the operated leg strong enough for me to do that. Any help would be appreciated. My left leg feels better today I’m just hoping I’m not hurting the operated leg.

Could you maybe try using two? The hiking type walking poles are more lightweight and it is easier to carry them around than chunky sticks. Or maybe use one walking pole and one stick. ?

"Trust your implants" it was the best advice i ever got in my knee class. You knee feels different because its fixed! You're weak because of muscle atrophy as you used your leg lesd n less as knee got worse. Your knee needs strong muscles and it wont feel wobbly. Think about when somrone bresks their arm. 6wks in a cast and the remodeled part is STRONGER than the regular bone!

Knee surgery is a test of the mind. The depression, the "what ifs", the lack of sleep etc.

YOU GOT THIS! TRUST YOUR KNEE!

You can't "hurt" the operated knee...it's metal...but your quads, glutes and core are all atrophied.  If you are needing to rely on it more because of weakness on the left side, I'd rebuild those right leg muscles as quickly as I could.  Here's the plan...

The operated leg has to get strong again.  Time, work and patience.
