Hello, I am a 34-year-old former smoker. It has been 5+ months that I have been smoke free.

It all started April' 2015. I was feeling chest pain/shortness of breath/sour taste in my mouth/dizzy and general feeling of being unwell all the time. Because of this I made an appointment with Cardio doc, he ordered Blood Test, Stress Test, Echo and ECG. Before the tests were done, one day at work I felt like I was losing my consciousness and had chest pain. So I asked a colleague to drive me to ER, they did X-Ray, Blood work and ECG. Everything was normal so the ER doc gave me a month of PPI to suppress my acid reflux and $2000 bill to pay. I completed all the tests from my Cardio and everything was normal.

I was on good shape for about 6 months and again I had chest tightness and pain. I rushed to another cardio who did ECG and said there is nothing to worry about. I had the same incident after 10 days and I ignored it guessing it is probably GERD. So I made appointment with a Gastro doctor, around Jan 2016 who again prescriber me a month of OMEPRAZOLE 40 MG. After having the medication for 3 days I had a night out with some beer and salmon. In the morning I had severe palpitation/shortness of breath and chest pain. I rushed to a URGENT CARE facility, the doctor did ECG again on me which was normal, they asked me to go to ER but I did not to save money as they are really expensive. I booked an appointment with a GP who prescribed me anti-anxiety pills. I did not have the pills but after a week I had blood in my sputum one morning and again visited my GP (third time actually), he prescribed me some anti-depressant and asked me to gargle with saline water. I did not take those pills from the GP.

 

I made an appointment with a pulmonologist then, after looking at my report he ordered a CT and Lung Function Test. My insurance denied the CT scan saying that it is not medically necessary. During my follow-ups the pulmonologist said that the Lung function test came out to be all clear but CT needs to be done may be with Bronchoscopy and ordered it again because of 6 instances of blood in sputum, the insurance denied it again.

Now I am not sure what to do, I had numerous visits to 6 different doctors already but everyone did different diagnosis. My Insurance sucks which do not agree to pulmonologist. My symptoms are chest pain/heaviness, feeling tired/fatigue, lost 13 pounds in last 3 months, blood in sputum, feels like I am going to pass out, always worrying, sour taste in my mouth sometimes, throbbing pulse all over my body, visible throbbing pulse in the right palm. I am waiting for my pulmonologist to get the CT approved from my insurance.

    All of this is classic anxiety. The blood in sputum is the only thing id be concerned about, but even that is most likely something extremy minor.. You need to take the meds prescribed to you. I've been feeling the same chest issues daily. Worrying will make it all worse, trust me. If you haven't gotten any bad results, you need to just accept that it's anxiety. All doctors will say something else depending on current symptoms.. If you have shortness of breath or something, they will assume indigestion or gerd if they can't find anything that is actually bad.. Do you have a counselor? Try not relying on doctors so much. I basically lived at my hospital got 3 months until I finally realized they wouldn't send me home if I was really sick. Prayers!

    My symptoms are very similar to yours have you found any answers? Mines had been going on for 3 months and I still don't have an actual diagnoses from my doctor

      Hi Tina, 

      I did not get any answers from my doctor. CT was clear and Bronschospy was clear too. I am doing EDG this week. I hope you will get an answer soon and it may be very minor.

      Thanks for the reply Dee. I hope that we both can get answers soon and that is minor. I have a barium swallow next week. please keep me posted if yoou find out anything!

    Sorry to hear about your symptoms,

    I have the same problem like you chest tightness palpitation heart escaoe beat before now its fine i have been visited to different docs,7 docs physcian,8 docs medical specialist,3 docs cardiolgist,5 docs gastro many of the times i rush to the emergency that i have heart attack when i ist feel it was 4 years ago when i was 26###now i am 30... Still didnot find any answer what the actual problem is.....i have done gall baldder surgery 6 years ago because of polyps biopsy of gb is clear...test till now i have done is...Tyriod test,stool tests,complete body blood check up 3 times last one done 2 months go,chest x rays,urine test,16 ecgs in which 15 is clear one show some problem of slow heart beat like heart beat is slow for 2 seconds after that my cardiolgist monitor my heart for 24 hours with holter ecg machine result was normal 2 heart echos,endoscopy,colonscopy 3 ultrasounds al of thats is clear...most of the doctors family members friends even my wife believe that and always say it to. Me that i dont have any medical problem i have problem with my head they think i pschyco.....believe me its hurts to much when i see other people living happily and going for outing i some time cry and talk with the God that why me i feel like that? My recent gp who do an endoscopy for me mention that i have acid reflux because i have constant burpinf on daily basis i burp almost all day thats why i have palpitatiin and chest heaviness and also panic attacks and anxiety.......no one medicine will work for me..........i must say u r not alone there are million people who feel the same like us but they never explain and share it with others...try to calm ur self i know its hard but we can not do any thing in that matter we re helpless...u have blood in sputum which needs to concern but hope ur ct scan will be clear u have chest x ray which is normal so ct will b also normal hopefully.......just pray to God and do some exercise it will also relax ur mind my prayers are with u

      Thanks for the Reply. You have gone through so much, I have EGD schedules this week to see if this is something related to Reflux. I have lost almost 20 punds because of this too.
