Basically I have been unwell and suffering from chest pain and discomfort as well as breathlessness. I have an up coming appointment for an ECG to see if it brings anything up but looking up some of the more unusual symptoms that I have I found it can be due to an infection of the heart lining and I was wondering if something like this would cause an abnormality when doing an ECG because I feel that if they do not find anything they will put it down to something other than a heart problem and I'm convinced that it is even if nothing major.

A small number of cases cannot easily be diagnosed by the above and in this case if symptoms persist or worsen an ultrasound may be helpful before any more invasive tests are considered.

If you have chest pain, breathlessness, sweating alot without exercise you should be getting to Emergency room or ER, possibly by ambulance, they will do an your ECG in your house when they come to pick you up.
Husband has heart failure, when ambulance came for him they did an ECG as first thing they did, he did not have any pain, never has had which is a little disconcerting even for the nurses and Drs at the hospital.
At the hospital they did x-ray, which showed his heart was bigger than it should have been, that then led to a echocardiogram which showed them in more detail what and where, left ventricle was seriously enlarged, cause at that time unknown.
Following day did an angiogram with dye because they feared he had clogged or blocked arteries in his heart, found to have no blockages, they came to the conculsion that he had a nasty virus that had attaacked his heart.
Since then have had a number of issues with electrical system of heart closing down, now 100% both branch bundle blockage, they have installed a three lead pacemaker to replace that electrical system, and he is really very well presently.
But me for example I had chest pain one evening, not really very bad just uncomfortable, but when I tried to lie down I couldn't breathe, and it felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest, rang the ambulance service for advice, they came out, checked me out and transported me to hospital, it was found I had fluid in the sack my heart sits in, caused by inflammation, told probaby a virus, but if it had been left end result not pretty.
