Cholester reading UP after plant sterols

About two months ago my cholesterol reaing was 6.2. Do not have HDL

LDL was four

I took Boots Plant Sterols Capsules for two months

Good diet lots of fish and low sat fat

Now my reading is 7.1

HDL 1.49

LDL 4.9

How could this be?

Previous to that I took yogurt plant sterols for a couple years and saw a slight increase too. Are there some medications that make sterols have reverse effect?

Has anyone ever heard of this happening?

I have to say I saw no difference in the lowering in my cholesterol when I took the drinks. However I am convinced I  develope pain from taking them. This may have been due to  some sort of reaction/allergy I have to these types of drinks.

Yes, I have.  Perhaps you have the genetic condition described by http://www.health.harvard.edu/cholesterol/ ....one group of people should stay away from foods enriched with plant sterols or stanols—those with the rare genetic disorder known as phytosterolemia or sitosterolemia who absorb these substances at abnormally high rates. Once inside the body, plant sterols and stanols accumulate and cause the same problems as too much cholesterol.'

You could be right peeeeeeee. Or it may have something to do with my thyroid not workink and having to take thyroxin. Am starting to take the drinks again to see if the pain returns. Was pain free when I stopped taking them. We shall see.
