My son is autistic and was on 20 mgs. of Celexa. Doctors are great for prescribing meds but know very little on the true effects the side effects have and their withdrawals.
How long do these brain zaps last for during the withdrawal period?

Good morning... he is still sleeping. He has no school today. He was in the worst shape yesterday that I've even seen any human in my life. My boyfriend compared him to someone tripping out on Crystal Meth. I don't even know anything about that drug. So the not eating and not sleeping were withdrawals.
I do compare a lot of what you went through with him because you and him are more sensitive to meds. The diff is that you never went back up. If his not sleeping withdrawal went away, I never would have given him that 5mgs again.
I spent the rest of my night trying to keep him from walking out of the house. I hope to God I don't have to relive yesterday or last night again. I'll let you know later.. Thanks

Good morning Kate and Lois. Am I the only one still having problems getting on this website? I dread going on here because it's such a battle.
So I have been giving him about 13mgs a day. The pill is too small to evenly get a 5mgs in half.
He's been back to sleeping. Thursday and Friday were a nightmare. Better Sat Sun and today, but still way out of sorts.

His nights have been a nightmare. That's why I'm asking were you like Kate? It seems that everyone starts with better nights? He used to have really good nights. But his nights turned into hell.
Now what does that mean? It's been now 7 1/2 months 😢

I apologize for having my doubts. Watching him being put through hell and taking us all down with him makes me question my choices.
Seriously, at what point do I throw in the towel...?
Your recovery took 8 months. But yuh weren't in hell for 8 months. Were you?

After all the test at the emergency thinking I was having heart attack..and everything coming back negative..trust and believe me it was no breeze for me..all the passing back and forth all the pain physically and mentally ...was not and easy trip ...for me ...I waited eight months because I refused to think they weren't working..

This is the question many ask. At what point does a person wonder... are they really working or are they hurting?
It's only natural to ask that. It's literally is a year off a person's life! and for most it's a breeze.

I have been questioning my judgment for months. His anxiety wasn't a 100th as bad as it is now and at 7 1/2 months is very disheartening. Each day I want to take back my decision of starting them. He's so trapped where he is right now. I can't do a thing with the dose for how long... at least another month?
If it wasn't for the other stuff I am giving him that I'm not allowed to mention here... he would not have survived this long.
So you suffered for 8 months and what happened? It was all gone?

That is so scary that a medicine has that much control over a human being.

Yes it happened in little burst of feeling better ..than around the 8monthmark with the same dosage.i woke and said wow..I feel better..and all though every where I read they said up the dosage because I was feeling hedious..I said /my husband said/ my phychiatrist said ...don't if it's going to work it's going to work no matter what milligrams your taking.so I took that into consideration and stay on the ten milligrams.no matter if I was feeling like poop . I said no way..and you know I believe mind over body .with me convincing my self it's going to work just let it be .it's not and over night fix..

This is what I just don't understand. And also why I keep asking you question after question because it wasn't easy for you. Every person in our lives are on my back for keeping him on this stuff making me think I'm a horrible mom for torturing him. I sound like a broken record feeling like I'm trying to convince myself it'll work. The last day I saw my son looking normal was on Oct 30th. Before that.. I can't remember. He makes these painstaking faces and his hands gets all deformed due to the extreme anxiety.
I cry every day that he isn't showing me any signs that he's getting better.

Not too much. It does not absolutely nothing for him. Like not having it at all. Back in August, when his anxiety wasn't that bad.. that stuff worked on him.

Lois, this is scaring the heck out of me!!! He is constantly holding his heads, his ears, his fingers get all twisted, he makes these weird faces that I am terrified he'll never look normal again.

Wow but those aren't side effects of celexa...could it be all the Medications combine that is doing this to him?

Lois it's super scary to see. I think it may be his way of handling the high anxiety. Because when I give him his POT, and it kicks in, he looks more normal.

Is it legal in Europe? He's lucky or I'm lucky he gets the medical kind. I know exactly what he's getting and I control how Much he gets. It truly has been our only savior.
He tried Valium and it made him lose his mind! That was even more scary. The autistic brain is so hard to get meds right with.
You and everyone else here are so lucky you're normal. You can control your own destiny. He relys on me guessing.

No my friend's are in the states..have you try zanex..it is totally different that Valium.

On an autistic brain.. it can cause the opposite effect. Doctors won't prescribe that. I have it at home and I can't take that chance on giving it to him. Wanted to try it SO BAD!!

No 😞
Between his autism and his seizures, we have to be so careful. He was up to 30mgs of Celexa. His seizures got so bad I thought I was going to lose him.
