Citalopram dreadful side effects - warning
Posted , 10 users are following.
Just need to share this - not to put people off Cit but but just to inform others of my experience. On 10mg Cit for five days following a bout of depression. Side effects were horrendous. Exteme panic attacks (never had one in my life); being 'knocked out' and having to literally crawl to bed for 2 hours once or twice a day; nervousness, agitation and uncontrollable trembling; nausea; no appetite; tearful and sobbing; diarrhoea; sweating; depair. I dubbed it my 'torture tablet'. Rang GP who immediately took me off them stating that I must be very senstive to this medication. If you get all of these effects in five days my strong advice is to stop. You may actually save your own life....

However.......
Different medications work in different ways on an individual basis. We had bad experiences on Citalopram however others have seen Citalopram change their life around for the better again therefore is does work for some.

I experienced the same 'so called by the doctor side effects' . I took half a low dose citropram and 10 hours later suddenly felt like I was dying...rush of nausea, cold sweats shaking , felt paraletic drunk, disoriented, stomach leg cramps, felt my heart pumping loudly too slowly, worse headache ever had. Wanted to call 999 but couldn't function properly to coordinate body, my bowels opened. It was horrendous and soo scary. It took another day of recovery , rest and fresh air. I completely forgot about my anxiety and felt lucky to have survived! There is no way I would take these pills again. I know they help some people but be very careful . I also had a milder so called side effect with pencillin and wondered if anyone else has experienced similar scary side effects from both of these drugs. Iwhen I recovered I went to speak to the prescribing doctor who told me I was having a panic attack, I was/am soo frustrated as I know the difference. I am worried about taking any prescribed drugs now from not knowing the ingrdient that caused this v frightening episode. Does anyone know how to get tested to avoid this happening Again? I am trying to see a different doctor who can change my notes to tell the truth for future reference. Keep safe people and take v gradually etc.
