I've been on citalopram for about 2 years. I took a break of a few months where I tried Lovan and it was absolutely awful and I ended up suicidal. I'm back on the citalopram for about 6 months and my anxiety and panic attacks have just been getting worse and worse. I was diagnosed with Coeliac disease about 4 months ago and everyone told me it should get better now I'm on a gluten free diet. I'm beginning to avoid my triggers again. I feel detached from the world around me. I feel like it's never going to get better.

Hi pia88
We note from a recent post which you have made to our forum that you may be experiencing thoughts around self-harm. If we have misinterpreted your comments then we apologies for contacting you directly. But if you are having such thoughts then please note that you are not alone in this, and there are people out there that can help.
If you are having these suicidal thoughts then we strongly recommend you speak to someone who may be able to help. The Samaritans offer a safe space where you can talk openly about what you are going through. They can help you explore your options, understand your problems better, or just be there to listen.
Their contact details are on our patient information leaflet here: https://patient.info/health/dealing-with-suicidal-thoughts, which also offers lots of other advice on how you can access the help you may need.
If you are having such thoughts then please do reach out to the team at the Samaritans (or the other people detailed in our leaflet) who will understand what you're going through and will be able to help.
Kindest regards
Patient

I know how you're feeling I really do. I've been on citalopram for about 16 weeks now and I'm coming to the realization that it's not for me and I feel the same way as you as in things not getting better and feeling worse, and detached. I was on zoloft years ago and that was successful so I know that the A/D do work just this one isn't for me. I'm going to have to switch as the doctor suggested and it's really scary to think about but I do want to feel better, which I guess is what keeps me going and that is the glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. Sounds as if you have also been successful on A/D also at one point so you do know that it does get better just at times like this everything seems so overwhelming and dark but I know that is temporary and with the right meds and therapy I will be back to myself.
Hope things get better for you and you feel well soon!
