hi everyone so where do i start? im not good at this sort of thing so ill try my best 😃
first thing is i have extreme anxiety and probably depression too as its making me lonely and sad as anything.
i was on citalopram for this where i got moved up to 20mg but i came off them after roughly 6 months, i didnt feel like they were that effective tbh. after revisiting my doctor i told him that i came off them (this was a new doctor that i saw who was really good and wanted to know and actually was genuinly worried for me)
he asked about my life etc, my life basically consists of me never leaving the house ever and its been like this since i left school, im now 29. i also drink at night and have done since i left school. i dont have a job or a social life.
and sorry if this grosses people out but i rip my toenails clean off, like the whole thing, i have to put wet tissiue around them and take painkillers. yes its very painful. ive heard this could be a sign of ocd. im also getting tested for adhd but i personally dont think i have that.
but i going for councelling and employment support to try help me which starts next week. my question is should i go back on the medication or take a higher dose or try something else? please someone help me it mean so much thankyou. theres more but i think ive written enough haha

Tom, I’m really sorry that you are going through this. Believe me I know how difficult and miserable severe anxiety feels. i’ve had it all my life.
I’m very glad that you are getting counseling. Once you start it, please continue it even when you start to feel better. It’s really important to have that support when you’re feeling like this. you might want to discuss the medication with your counselor because he or she has probably talked about this with many other patients. Everybody’s different when it comes to medication.
be very open with your counselor so that you can get help. include the loneliness and depression, and everything else.
also, talk to your Doctor Who prescribed it about what the different options are. Such as changing the dosage, trying something different, etc. your doctor knows you better than anybody on here and people on this site would just be guessing what the right thing to do is.
with these medication‘s some people have to try different ones until they find the right one. But it does take a good 4 to 6 weeks for the medication to really kick in.
take one day at a time. Avoid things that increase anxiety, such as caffeine, alcohol, sugar, etc. getting some exercise even walking helps to reduce anxiety.
for the depression and loneliness, talking with other people, laughing and getting out once in a while, helps. I hope you start to feel better soon, but give it some time. Once you talk to your doctor and counselor, you should have a good plan in place to feel better! One day you will look back at all of this, and be glad that you got the support! Take care. ❤
