Cloudiness/waxpaper vision after cataract surgery

Hi Everyone, I just had surgery Friday, late morning, on my second eye and I noticing some issues that I didn't have after the surgery on my first eye. On my first eye my vision was very clear the day after surgery. I was sensitive to light but everything was in focus. Now, I just completed my second surgery 2 days ago and I'm not seeing the same results.
First of all the doctor used a different monofocal lens so I could avoid getting negative dysphotopsia like I did with the first lens. Unfortunately I'm seeing ND in this eye as well. But my main concern is the lake of clarity in this new lens. Everything looks like I'm looking through a wax paper and nothing is clear and the tint is grey. Also, objects look out of focus with this eye. The first eye I had done was set to intermediate and works great. This lens was supposed to be set for distance so I would have mono-vision.
My post surgery appointment was done the same day as the surgery so my eyes were still dilated. They tested my eye for vision and pressure and didn't say anything was wrong. The doctor said the waxy vision was normal and would go away in a few days. But if it doesn't clear up, how long should I wait before I bring this to my surgeons attention and what would my options be if there is a problem with lens or the way it was set up prior to surgery?

I would certainly want a follow-up by 7 days post-op. That's seems to be pretty standard I think. What lens did you get this time? I did develop PCO very quickly in one eye, but I don't recall waxy/hazy vision early on. The main symptom initially was seeing halos around lights. Now I have problems with glare also.

TECNIS® Monofocal 1-Piece IOL (ZCB00). The glare is very minor but the vision is blurry and from what I can tell it seems more like an intermediate rather than a distance lens.

When you say it seems more like an intermediate lens do you mean your vision is clearer at intermediate distances? Your Alcon lens has a yellow tint and the Tecnis lens has no tint so colors will look slightly different between the two. Some people notice, some don't. It's still very early so what you are experiencing could simply be part of the healing process.

I say that because when I look at my computer screen with my distance eye it seems to see the letters on the screen the same as what I see with my intermediate eye even though their not as clear and it looks like I'm looking through a really dirty window. I won't know for sure until I take another eye test.

I forgot to mention when the doctor was doing my post-op appointment he did mention I have a slight astigmatism but I thought they'd correct for that when they set up the lens. But maybe what I needed was a toric monofocal lens for this eye rather than a standard. I guess I'll know once it completely heals.

I wondered about astigmatism also. Would be good to get refraction numbers at 7 days post-op.

You might have Corneal Edema. What you are describing is similar to what I experienced.
I just posted and asked about it few days ago, entitled "Corneal Swelling (Edema) after Cataract Surgery (1 week Post Op)"
My 1day Post Op, I had severe cloudiness/white haziness which resulted me in 20/200 vision. Waxpaper vision is pretty accurate too as it did look a little brown at times. Eye doc diagnosed me with Corneal Edema. I had to increase my steriod drops (Prednisolone) from 6x to 8x a day. 20/200 vision lasted 3 full days, it wasn't until days 4-5 I noticed improvement. On the 6th day haziness completely cleared, I called in for an appt and interim eye doc says most of edema is now gone. However I still have blurriness since that day and now almost a week later (since haziness went away) I have not seen any improvement in visual acuity.
I have the Alcon Acrysof Toric monofocal, set for distance but with slight nearsightedness (so target of -0.5). Now that you mentioned it, my best focus is intermediate distance but it is still 20/30-40 'ish and the range is very small. I too have ND in both eyes now.
Hope you get better soon. I would at least call in to your Eye doc. Let's keep each other updated

hi jeff is it possible you have some corneal edema? That can cause fogginess. if so, that usually clears in 4-5 days. Are you seeing surgeon again this week? If so, he will be able to assess then.

I hope that in time your cloudiness goes away, give it some time but follow up within a week if you still have problems. I got ND and PD in the same eye. I couldn't even count the times I went back for follow ups due to my sight was not clear. They kept telling me that it would clear up but it never did. After a year and a half of struggling through this I finally went back to my eye Doctor. It ended up that I needed glasses. As soon as he examined me and showed me options of clarity it was immediate that the clarity would mean getting glasses. I paid $5,000.00 out of pocket for the best lens so I never had to wear glasses again, however, that was not the case. I feel like everything was so botched for my cataract surgery and they just shrugged it off. I went to the most reputable surgeons in my area. The reason I'm sharing my story with you is that IF that happens to you and you don't see improvement, don't be like me and wait for a year and a half to resolve the problem like I did. I had no idea, they just kept saying my results were fine. We know our own bodies, only WE can see what we see so when they tell us, it's normal, we need to fight our own battle. Good luck, I hope things get better for you. Prayers for a complete recovery in your vision.

Hi Everyone. Thanks for your replays and kind words. It's been four days since the surgery and my sight has finally cleared up. I am no longer getting the wax paper vision and I'm enjoying my new sight. I am glad I had the surgery. Both my eyes seem to be working well together and I think it's going to work out. Now I just need to remember to take my drops.
