Concerned...

Hello, my name is Kirstie. I'm 23 years old, female and since December 23, 2015, I discovered that I have Genital herpes (HSV-2). I was with this guy in the beginning of November. And came to find out that he had a girlfriend the whole time... of course I ended that... Then I started messing around with my good friend afterwards (my friend is one of the most trusting people I have ever met. Been friends for over 3 years.) But when we were messing around, we had unprotected sex once and had protected sex about... 3 or 4 times (still no symptoms a at that time). December 13th, I started having irritation down there (burning while using the bathroom, sores, itching) but I didn't think of anything of it. Just thought I scratched too much down there... then it wasn't going away, and I was in more pain than anything. During that week, me and my friend had protected sex while I had the symptoms (still wasn't aware about it.) Finally, December 23rd, I went to the hospital and see what was going on. It came out positive.. I asked that guy if he had it and he said he would get back to me when he is back from being out of town. .. I haven't heard from him since Christmas day and to be honest, I don't want to ask him again cause I have a feeling that it is him since he had a girlfriend. And my thing is once a cheater, always a cheater. So who knows if he has been with other girls or what...

But I told my friend the same day I found out. And he told me he is going to get checked soon... my concern is could I given him it even if we had protected sex? And my next question is, after my breakup with that one guy and not having symptoms at that time... could I have gotten herpes immediately from him or what? And as for my dear friend... we had unprotected sex after my breakup... Could I possibly had herpes at that and given it to him? I keep reading that sometimes you can get GH and don't find out until you finally have an outbreak... I'm just so lost. I asked my friend if he had any symptoms and he hasn't.. I feel like he will be okay but he hasn't gotten checked either.. I just really don't want him to have it because he means a lot to me and I would be devastated if he did get it from me... I really appreciate whoever had the time to read my situation...

    Hey Kirstie..

Sorry about what your going through and I hope things will sooner then later even out with you.

I'm in the same exact situation as you are .. Someone I had unprotected sex with had it & they never alerted me with it .. So it's a life long situation that I am In.

I have a boyfriend but I don't even think that is going to work out which makes me even more nervous and insecure and down about this virus .. I don't know how to control my feelings .. Like why did I get put in this situation ? All because someone didn't want to alert me that they had this ..

I can tell you that my boyfriend did get very lucky . I had bumps and everything ( experiencing an outbreak) and I didn't know I thought it was due to an nair reaction resulting in an chemical / 2nd degree burn ... But turns out I had genital herpes ..

And we had unprotected sex during the process & ironically thankfully nothing happened . And he has gotten tested twice ...

I'm not going to say he did . But if you guys used protection it's not very likely .

Sorry that you are going through all this .. Just hang in there ,

When was the last time you had sex with the guy with the gf? Because it sounds more like your good friend is the source, from what I can make of the timings above. Symptoms usually occur within a week.

The last time I had sex with that guy was before Thanksgiving.

When you developed symptoms, was it a week after sex with him or your friend?

It was about 2 weeks after me and that guy had sex when I started having the symptoms. My friend and I had sex a couple of times a week after my breakup.

So both are within 1-2 weeks of your symptoms? If so, it could be either. Incubation period is 2-12 days, up to 20, but usually within a week of infection for most people. A carrier needn't have recognisable symptoms, but can still be contagious.

I honestly don't think it was my friend... we had sex before I met that guy and I never had any symptoms before.
