Confused

Before I found this site this afternoon I called my doctor surgery to ask how much longer I should expect the side effects to last. Well they just called back and I am now so confused and scared.

Spoke to a different doctor who said she would not have prescribed fluoxetine, she would have prescribed sertraline. She said it was calmer than fluoxetine. She told me to not take anything then take new ones sat night.

Am I going from frying pan into the fire. Has anyone else done this x

What you have to expect is you are taking a synthetic drug which alters the most important organ of the body, the brain. Your body is not got let thos happen lightly so it will do everything possible to stop this, hence the side effects!!

I don't know much about the other ssri's but I do know that flouextine is one of the easier drugs to come off of with lighter withdrawals.

Thank you for replying. She has just confused me so much. I don't want to start something new to go through it all again. I just don't know how long I can cope with the heightened anxiety. Before taking flu I was up and down. Now my anxiety is so high all the time. X

I'm not a fan of fluoxetine. Been on 20 mg for 10 months. The worst systems and side effects for me. I hear others it works for but if anyone asks me of my opinion, I wouldn't take it. Just my opinion but I do hear more bad complaints than good on it also. Good to ask alot of questions and do your reviews and like this site, listen to those who are on it or have taken it. NEVER have I gotten any words of side effects or response to my side effects from my doctor's. It's like they're afraid to spit out the truth. Anyway, my opinion. Haven't heard of the other one but will read up on it. Thanks and prayers to this group.

Yeah same story. Fluoxetine was horrible for side effects, KO'd me for a month. I was just out of it. Phoned the doctors who said stop and then withdrawal took almost a month due to the long half life of the tablets rolleyes

My GP prescribed 20mg and I got told Sertraline should have been prescribed as it's easier to get along with and has less side effects. Plus it's more suited for Anxiety (which I have) over depression.

Starting Sertraline on Monday. Hoping for the best. Not looking forward to the next two weeks though

      Mine is anxiety. No depression

There's many different types of SSRI's and each one suits different people.  Am a bit surprised both doctors contradict each other.  You can't tell if one SSRI will work for you until you've been on it for a couple of months.

Stopping meds and restarting another, getting side effects again, withdrawal - all depends on how long you've been on Fluoxetine.

I've taken Citalopram - my son took Fluoxetine.  Both worked for us individually.

I'd speak to your original doctor again just to get clarification.
