Confused

So the person who I thought I got hsv from got tested and he said they told him he's just a carrier bc he has cold sores. So what does that mean? Did he give it to me or not . I had my first ob a month ago and I'm finally feeling normal again. Also can it be possible that my ex from a over a year ago gave it to me and I didn't have symptoms till now. Cus only igm was 2. Something and my igg was <0.91 I'm so confused now . I wanna get retested in 3 months to see if I have antibodies. I just really want to find out who gave it to me

Being a carrier means he's infected with the virus (for life) and can transmit. If you have the same HSV type as him, a first outbreak within a week or two of sexual intimacy with him, and no IgG antibodies at the time or soon afterwards (forget IgM), then it's likely from him.

Well he gets cold sores not all the time but he does and well I have hsv2 ..  like I said according to the igm . I started getting symptoms weeks after we had unprotected sex . I remember telling him it burned but I didn't think anything of it until I started itching any then I developed sores. So I'm confused did he really give it to me or not? The few times we did have oral sex he didn't have any sores but maybe he was shedding.. could that be it? Sorry tmi.

Did you test positive for hsv 2 by swab or igg? Or did they just tell you you were positive for hsv in the genital area. If he has hsv 1 only, he can only transmit hsv 1 but it can be transmitted to your genitals. Sorry I don't look at igm at all.

If he has confirmed HSV1 and you have confirmed HSV2 (two different viruses; nothing to do with location), then it's impossible for him to have given it to you. They are not the same virus, only semi-related.

Ok thank you according to him he just said that they told him he is a carrier of the virus since he gets cold sores. So then I'm assuming I got it over a year ago and I didnt he any symptoms till a few months ago?

I guess so, but a swab is the best way to confirm herpes. The IgM test is not reliable and the results should be disregarded. If that leaves you only with a negative IgG result (if I'm reading your reply correctly), then I would retest for IgG after 3 months from your first symptoms. If that's what you already did and it was still negative, then it seems you may not even have herpes!

I'm gonna get tested in 3 months and see how the igg comes up.. say it comes normal even if I had symptoms that means i don't have it right? And it wasn't probaly mistaken for something else. I just wanna pray and think I don't have it. Thank you for replying you know a lot of info👌

HSV1 IgG can sometimes be 'missed' even when someone has had it for over 3 months, but it's more often picked up than not. HSV2 IgG is reliably detected after 3 months. Thus, if you test negative for all HSV IgG after 3 months, there's a small chance that it could still have been HSV1, or something else. Should you ever get symptoms again, insist on a swab test. And happy to help!
