hi all, i’m 19 and have been dealing with a wide variety of symptoms since late July. I have been experiencing insane burning around the vestibule, tearing (only during sex, at the 6 o clock area), occasional itching, burning that extends to the rectum, on and off redness, etc. I have been tested for every std and am negative (including swab of a brand new tear and 13 week blood test for herpes just to ease my anxiety). I am wondering if this is lichen sclerosis, as i have developed wrinkled areas on my labia that have never been there before. (no white patches). i also was wondering if this could be vestibulodynia. I know all over online women rarely mention tearing as a symptom of vuvlodynia/vestibuldynia, so i am curious if that is a symptom some of you experience. Some background, i got diagnosed with Hashimotos (underactive thyroid) in May. I also never had painful sex before during my 3 year relationship. so this is concerning to me. i use coconut oil on my vulva areas/ anal area every night. any advice is appreciated! i’m seeing a specialist Nov 8th but want to hear some personal experiences.

I was diagnosed with vulvodynia back in 2013. At the time when it began my skin in that area was red and very fragile and every time i had sex it tore at 6 o'clock, like you. I had been having recurrent and persistent yeast infection which i assumed had left my skin fragile, however myself and the drs are not sure at what point the burning and soreness from the infection turned into burning and soreness from vulvodynia. You have made me wonder now if the fragile skin was actually from the vulvodynia because all your other symptoms and the negative tests for infection point to the fact that you have vulvodynia.

Wow thats interesting! i had trich for a month from my cheating ex and had to be on 3 doses of antibiotic. a month and a half later all my issues started. i am clear of every fungal, bacterial, and viral infection according to tests ive had. its nerve wracking not knowing why or what is causing this pain.

You can test for vulvodynia by touching the painful area with a cotton bud. If you feel pain, the nerves are registering touch as pain and they are hyperactive and hypersensitive - vulvodynia. Vulvodynia is a nerve condition caused by trauma to the nerves dues to infection or chemical or physical trauma - it is neuroceptive pain. It can also be called by trapped pelvic nerves. Unfortunately neuroceptive pain is very difficult to get rid of, it takes a long time to return the nerves to their normal level. If you click on my name you can see my posts and you will find one called "how i cured my vulvodynia" where i tell the story of my 2 year journey to becoming pain free. other women have posted their success stories on there too.

is tearing normal? i tear everytime i have sex. is that a symptom of vestibulodynia?

I don't know if tearing is normal, i just know that i got tearing. However, if you are going to get better and pain free again you must refrain from doing anything that aggravates it until you are completely pain free. That includes sex (I had no sex for 2 years), exercise, sitting (you need to get a donut cushion with a hole in the middle). I'm afraid that it is a very slow and long process and you will not be pain free again if you do not abstain from everything that aggravates the nerves. You also need to try everything that has been shown to help - amitriptylene, acupuncure, physio, manual desensitisation, yoga, pelvic floor exercises. It is very difficult to get the nerves to return to normal, you need to be strict and determined. My dermatology consultant told me that the women who have vulvodynia for many years are those who are not determined and who give in and have sex, or ride their horse, or go to the gym, etc. I know that because when i was almost pain free i had oral sex - put me right back to square one. Same when i tried starting belly dance again.
