New to this sight and I'm confused as to whether it herpes or not. 2 years ago a small white patch appeared on my buttock, very sore but didn't look like blisters, more like bacteria. Cleared up quickly, six months later same thing, visited GP said it was fungal the nfection and was given meds. Four months it's back, another GP says it's a pilondial cyst and refers me. Then nothing for over a year, this Jan had a rotten cold and it appeared again and seems to have been there ever since. No pain, not anywhere else. I do suffer with Piles and anal fissures and the cream for that does help. GP in Jan said herpes, no tests, very matter of fact. Been in relationship for eight years and married for 17 years before. I'm 55 and post menopausal. So lots going on. Any ideas??

It would seem that it's not, but you never know. Herpes can be a good mimic. That's not very good of your doctor to say it's herpes with no test or at least a classic outbreak to back up his claim, though. Next time, ask for the herpes IgG antibody test (not IgM) and a swab of your anal fissure to check for herpes, if you're concerned.

That's what I thought, three GP's later and I'm still unclear. I must add the patch of white (size of a 5p) has gone but I feel tender on my buttock, like a bruise beneath the skin. gP just handed me a leaflet. No advice.
I think I might have BV, as I feel a bit chaffed below, but nothing visible, no spots or cuts and a tiny amount of white discharge. It doesn't hurt to pee or touch or even to have sex. But with the menopause too it gets tricky. My general health is good and I've been taking extra supplements for six months.
Thanks for your reply, if it comes back I'll take your advice and get a swab. Partner has shown no symptoms and we both had that rotten cold back in January.
