Confused newbie needing help!!!

Hi all

firstly i just want to say that this forum is GREAT! Very helpful indeed-certainly more than the leaflet that comes with orlistat..

ok i need your help please.

I started orlistat last saturday and haven't had any of the side-effects. At first i thought it might take some getting used to but i still haven't had anything. Now having read everybody's posts i'm thinking i'm not having enough fat? Seems like that was the problem all my life but now i'm not having enough?

How much fat should i be having per meal and what foods can i find it in?

Please help!

Much appreciated

thank you

    Hi and welocme.

here are the rules i use, others use slightly different versions.

Eat 1500 calories or less per day

Eat 30g of fat each day - divided between three meals

Eat no more than 15 fat at any one meal.

I have nutriscales and weigh everything I eat.

I read packets and I keep a spreadsheet of what I am eating / drinking.

but i am struggling to make 30 grams of fat which seems ridiculous because i'm sure i've been eating fat alll my life. should i add nuts in everything?

    thanks x

i've been on this now for 8 weeks, i havent found any advantage to topping up my fat intake to 30g a day, i usually consume about 18g a day, i asked my doctor and she said if i am loosing the weight and am eating enough then they are working and that i shouldnt need to add more fat unnecessarily, each to their own smile

Sparkles are you taking any vitamin supplements?

Our bodies need 20g of fat to metabolise fat soluble vitamins. The pills take out 1/3 hence the advice about eating 30g.

Your body is only getting 12g of fat at the moment so IMHO you should take a multivitamin just to be sure.

Actually I think anyone dieting probably should.

not everyone gets side effects, so don't worry be happy.

Hi I average about 15g of fat per day with about 1400 cals. I take a vitamin at night. I put on 5 lbs whilst on holiday but have lost 6lbs since I came back two weeks ago. When I spoke to nurse she said that's fine and that adding nuts would affect my cholestrol which is about 3. so I am nut upping my fat . I feel fine, people say I look great and am slowly loosing which in the long run is the best way.
