Constant pain

I've suffered with my back for the last 16 years however over the last 4 years I have had constant pain. Sometimes this is more intense than other times but it is always there and i am always aware when going about my day to day activities. The last intense bout was around a month ago. I literally had to get one of my sons to pass me pain killers so that i could get out of bed. Couple that with hayfever and believe me i was in agony with every sneeze!! When I have a paticularly bad bout walking, sitting, laying or even going to the toilet become really difficult. I have been to my doctor on numerous occasions and i'm just given more painkillers (which cause drowziness & constipation) and muscle relaxing tablets. I am 39 and sometimes get so low regarding this problem as I am normally a very active person. Just wanted to hear from others who are fed up of being fed tablets!!

The original injury that showed om my MRI was slipped disc, bulge and severe muscle and tissue damage.
Since the accident i have had intense physio i take a multitude of medication 14 pills everyday of different kinds,i was refered to the back clinic who then refered me to the pain clinic which is at Addenbrokes hospital Cambridge.
Since being under the pain clinic i have had an epidural to no avail and iv also been given a Dorsal root block which did seem to work about 2 weeks into having the injection...i got about 10-15 days respite from the pain i suffer daily.
My day to day living has changed completely i now have friends and family to help with everyday living and help to look after my children who are 7 and 10. I suffer constanly with pain in the lower left side of my back which incourse runs into my left thigh and calf. It can feel like electric shocks and also as if someone is constantly kneeing me in that area, it can also go numb in my left leg at times. it really is horrible isnt it!!
My bowel and bladder have also been affected where its like they go numb. I sometimes can be incontinent because i do not realise i need the toilet or when i go it will go numb and cut off midstream thus leading me to belive i am finished..which im not so will get wet! I have the same problem at times with my bowels it can be numb like i have no muscles around the anal passage. My tablets do not help because they can cause constipation so on a few occasions i have had to physically empty my own bowels which is an awfull experience so humiliating and degrading!!
I get awfully embarrased in talking about this but if it can help someone else then its worth it..after all we are all only human!!
The pain like yours is apparent everyday but can vary from day to day. Some days i can cope with it and other days it is so horrific that it actually makes me physically sick!! It severly disables me and i am totaly reliant on the care and support of others. My pain at one point was getting so bad that it was causing me to black out and landing me in hospital with concusion terrible black eyes and split lips where i fell.
I am registered disabled and have to use crutches to walk as my mobility is so poor. My doctor and consultant have said i will not return to work. On bad days i need a wheelchair yet am reluctant to use it as i see it as giving up and i can be very stubborn... i dont know if thats to do with my injury or the fact im a WOMEN lol!!
My consultant feels that all my nerve endings are shattered which is why i get this awfull pain. He does not know what to do with me now and half the time if honest with you i feel he thinks im just making it all up...because at the age of 31 with 2 beautifull girls and husband iv really nothing better to do with my time have i the idiot!!
Anyway that is me and my life at present!! My consultant is now on about sending me to rheumatogoly, when i asked why he said that is none of my business and that i should just turn up for the appointment...great isnt he ha!!
I have a second referal on the 1st september to see if they can sort this out because like you i can not continue like this!! Some people feel my treatment and care has not been correct. i could not say that for sure as i am not a medic!! All i will say though is i just want the right treatment so that i can get this under some control. I do not think i am asking for alot the same as you.
It is not fair that we are left in these situations being pumped with drugs and just left to get on with it. I am taking a stand against it and i WILL in time get the right treatment for me and hopefully in turn it will help many other people like us who suffer!! I am always here if you want to chat and will always let you know how i get on on my journey. I wish you all the best with yours and pray t

You got to try alternaitve or complementary methods to find a lasting solution to this. Healing is one of them.
I am an energy healer and have been successful in resolving many a patients back problems. By placing my hands on your body I run energy healing to resolve your problem.
It sounds spooky or wierd because you have not experienced it. The first time a patient comes to me is only after he has tried everything and failed, is a total sceptic, has no side effects and has nothing to lose. It does require him to be bold to take first step.
If you wish to discuss then email me on *** at ***

I know how you feel!
Over the last 4 years i have had so many different combinations of meds i should be rattling.
I wouln't mind so much if they actually helped to relieve my pain but they dont touch it not even Morphine.
Constant pain can be so tiring. It is the first thing i think about when i get up and the last thing i think about at night.
At times i find it hard to cope knowing every day is going to be like the last.
At least it's ahelp when there is like minded people out there who can give emotional support and know exactly what its like.
Best wishes

Although my lower back problem is not as serious as some of the posts here, I still feel it might be helpful to suggest using a memory foam mattress or topper to help alleviate aches. It's worked for me. A proper Tempura mattress ( £800) is very expensive, but there are cheaper versions available (£150) or just £50 for a topper. Most bedding suppliers will provide...search on net.

This system works, as it IS the proper way to take medication but we never for some reason ever adhere to it. I have always began with the maximum dose of Analgesic and NOW stick to what I have explained. Now for the last 5 years I now take Dihydrocodeine 30mgs and Tramadol 50mgs, two, four times daily and 'cross my heart', feel fine....constipated YES but a laxative helps.
Tablet taking is a science as I am told, I think they may be right.
Take care, Ron.
