Constipation straight to diarrhea

Hi hope this is not a problem posting on this group, I see the doctor in two weeks for a colonoscopy. I have not been diagnosed with any IBD but awhile back when I had gallbladder removed I told doctor I was looking up stuff on the web to help self diagnose myself. He said he didn't mind at all, as for other doctors find that disturbing. Matter of fact he incouraged it bc he said he had more luck helping his patients if they have some idea of what might be the problem and a patient knows their body better then he does. So here I am asking trying to get down to the bottom of my symptoms. A year and a half ago the symptoms started, first constipation for a week or so then diarrhea and so on for days. Left pain under ribs, left side of ribs and here just recently started on my right side as well. I can not find anything on the web for both right and left pain. I get mouth ulcers regularly sometimes 3-4 at a time and joint pain on and off, blood in fecas from time to time not very much as I've heard others. I also get what feels like a uti but test come out negative so I'm assuming my bladder gets inflamed during these times, I also have bloating an can not stop burping at times or don't want anyone to touch my stomach. I refuse to go to doctors before bc I have no insurance but after a year and half I feel as my life has been stolen from me. Everything seems to hit the symptoms of crohn's all except that I hear more about diarrhea and not so much about constipation. I get constipation more the I do diarrhea and seems to go in cycles. I don't remember last time I've even had a normal bowel movement 😳. I litterly sit on the tolite till my legs go numb. After I get past the hard stuff I get this excruciating diarrhea cramps. I also have upper mid back pain that feels like something is pushing on my spine from the inside out. It comes and goes and not sure if it's related or not but it's not my spine itself it's whatever is behind the spine. The pain doesn't seem to go off the same time as the left side pain either it's either one or the other. Anyone relate or should I be looking for something else? I'm afraid to get colonoscopy just to find nothing there, as my pain is excruciating now. Ideas??

I am sorry you are in a lot of pain and hope you get some answers soon as to the cause of your symptoms.

I understand what you are going through I've had problems with my bowel for years. I was told quite a few years ago that I had a functional gut disorder so was trying to manage it as best I could which mainly meant skipping meals taking lots of medication to reduce diarrhoea and pain and still feeling unwell.

For me it was blood tests that showed I was more poorly with something more (low b12 low folates and iron deficiency anaemia) and I was diagnosed with crohn's a year ago after an mri scan and a stool test to check for inflammation.

I found the last few years I became unable to take oral iron and vitamins made me ill with pain and diarrhoea.

Please try not to worry about the colonoscopy you can have medication and for me the pain I had daily was a lot worse than the colonoscopy.

I would say if possible try to get some blood tests to check if you are absorbing things like iron and particularly b12 ferritin and folates. Also a stool sample to check for inflammation.

    Hope that helps a bit

Let us know how you are

    Take care

Thank you Rose I have a colonoscopy scheduled next week on the 8th. After talking to the surgeon he thinks I just need my colon rehabbed but I know he is only trying to save me money as he knows I have no insurance. Great news though I applied for Medicare 6 months ago and last week I finally got approved l, so this is great timing. I also have a blood test the day before so hopefully that will show something. I'm afraid to take mirlax bc I read online if taken for long periods of time can cause DNA mutation and cause leukemia or other blood cancers.
