Continence Concerns!

Posted , 3 users are following.

Hello Ladies,

i am 5 weeks post rectocele and cystocele repair surgery.

I had stress incontince prior to that. The surgeon said there was a possibility that the surgery may fix the continence issue.

However, it is now much worse, not only restricted to stress.

Is this normal? Will the situation improve as time passes?

i would appreciate your thoughts very much,

Warmly, R.

Hello. During the operation your bladder will have been pulled around somewhat so that could cause you to be suffering more. It should settle down very soon if not just check you don't have a urine infection. Even without symptoms you still could have a mild infection.

Thank you, that is hopeful. I had better take a urine sample to my GP.

    thank you, that's reassuring.

    regards, R

I had problems feacally post rectocele repair and was very upset about it.  Went from not being able to go/having to help myself through vagina/always feeling like I needed to go to exactuly the opposite problem - no warning- suddenly going and not being able to stop.   Now 9 weeks later it has settled.  Was still having problems on and off till week 7.  Since then have had only one (couldn't quite get there in time) accident in the morning when I had soft stool.  Have developed my own management strategies re padded knickers by the bed (I sleep naked) for that first visit in the morning and have been given a small rectal irrigation device so when I head of for work I am confident I am done for most of the day.  Was worried about return to work but the routine has actually helped.    Getting better all the time and my fingers and toes are crossed that with lots of pelvic floor excerciese and more time I will feel totally confident soon.  Realise you weren't having this problem but thought I would share anyway as so few folk write about fecal stuff and I was desperate for support when first happened and others may look here.  Consultant and nurse specialist at St Thomas' have been great and gist of what they have been saying is it just takes time.

Thank you so much for writing about your own experiences. You certainly had/are having a long and difficult recovery, but good that you have had medical support from St.Thomas too.

So. . . the name of the game is patience!

You have given me hope and that is much appreciated.

      best wishes,

      R
