Copd and pleurisy

Posted , 2 users are following.

my husbands family have all died from lung cancer.  He has very severe copd and uses am bipap machine at night. He gave up smoking on diagnosis.  We manage exacerbations with emergency medicines. He has now developed pleurisy which is being treated with antibiotics.  His sister developed this shortly before she died.  I am now really worried that this pleurisy indicates something sinister in his lungs.   Does anyone have any answers

So sorry Nanny10, your husbands doctor / specialist will be able to give you a more accurate answer regarding what is going on in your husband's lungs.  An Xray  will indicate or CT scan will show precisely what is happening, if your husband has already had one recently I am sure the doctors would have picked up on anything in addition to copd and pleurisy.

Perhaps asked for copies of all tests carried out so you can view the results yourself and then if your doctor hasn't contacted you after the results and you are still concerned you can then converse with your husbands doctor.

Pleurisy can be caused by many things lung infection is one of them but no one here can offer any accurate answers what may be happening in your husbands case, only medical advisers can do that after view the appropriate test results.

Hope your husbands pleurisy and lung infection treatment clears things up quickly.  Just keep seeking the advice of the doctors if he is not responding to treatment.

    Best wishes V

Absolutely what Vee said, but keep in mind: your husband doesn't have lung cancer. This makes a huge difference with everything.

So does age. While I got over the pleurisy I had at 31, now that I've got COPD & bronchiectasis in my 60s, I would hate to get pleurisy again.

    Talk to the doctor.
