Cough for 7 weeks, soon taking 8 trips on a plane

I've had a cough for 7 weeks that hasn't got better with cough medications. I was advised by my GP 6 weeks ago not to take over the counter cough medications (cough syrup) as it increases the heart rate, due to my heart rate being 114 and me now on beta blockers.

Advised me to take only paracetamol.

This cough still hasn't gone and in 2 weeks time I am going on a big safari holiday in Kenya. Kenya is at a higher altitude to the UK and during the course of my trip I will be on 8 long flights. Kenya is also a malaria zone so anti malarial are a must.

The cough is just a cough but also quite chesty too (sore) chest.

Is there anything I can do to get rid of this or am I going to have to go see the GP again before I travel?

this sounds almost exactly like you have an infection, if not treated it will presist untill you have the proper medication for a long enough time.

my dad’s gf is in her 60s. she had this exact issue for a while, few months at least from what i witnessed. she saw an ears, nose, and throats specialist. he prescribed her a few types of antibiotics to clear it out, took a few prescriptions, but made her 100% healthy within a month or two!

your going to be fine, just try and get yourself in to get antibiotics or a prescription to remove the bacteria causing the cough

lungs will heal back to normal and you will be good.

stay positive and just remember that you will be fine once u get it checked and take the right meds. atleast its just a cough could be a lot worse.
