coughing lots

Posted , 6 users are following.

I had my anterior repair done early December and due to problems was off from work for 13.5 weeks.

I went back 2.5 weeks ago gradual return. End of last week developed a horrible cough and cold (coughing is the worst part). Sorry should of said that I work in a secondary school in the technology and art department.

Last night I coughed so much that I am sore in my ladies bits.

No matter how much I try to guard myself down there before I cough I don't seem to be tight enough to feel as if I am doing it properly.

I am worried that I am doing myself a mischief.

Please can you advise

Hi barbara, i wouldn't have thought that coughing could do much damage with you being 13.5 weeks. But I would get that cough sorted out at doctors ASAP and mention your concerns at same time. I am only almost 4 weeks post op and worry about doing BM and straining alot of time. Maybe it hurts because of all tensing up you are doing , you know working your kegals etc. I have read that you should start back slowly with those and back off if it starts to hurt down there. Hoping that is all it is and you feel heaps better real soon. As you are 13.5 weeks post op can you tell me if you had pains in your lower abdomen at around 4 weeks and if the scare area ever feels smooth again. Mine feels like piles but can't be wrong area. Hoping it will smooth out once stitches are out, when did yours go and did you notice. What sort of work do you do if you don't mind me asking? I work at a desk and think that at the moment even sitting for an hour makes down there feel heavy and achy- great word eh?! What is causing the cough? Get some help and keep smiling

Hi I work as a technician in art and technology department in a senior school. Lots of bending, stretching while helping teachers get ready for their lessons.

If you are able to access my previous posts you will see that I have had a few issues with healing properly and ended with ulcers in my vaginal entrance which has left me very tender down there. Doctors still don't know what caused them and can't tell me how to prevent them coming back.

Surgery went well and doctors assured me everything is normal but feels different when I am coughing etc.

Had been feeling much better till last week when cold started.

Hi Barbara 92, it would be wise to develop the art of the kegel brace. That is a certain technique to take the sudden pressure off your pelvic floor from a cough or a sneeze. You'd be amazed how many women damage their weak pelvic floors and it is vital that you work on getting strong as you rehabilitate. Check your posture (sit up straight, Bum at the back of the chair, walk tall) if you are pelvic floor exercising supplement with a good Vitamin D, clinically proven to help maximise the results. You have had your op, but your pelvic floor is still weak, so strengthening is vital. Watch your weight as you recuperate and no straining on the loo - use a toilet stool to get your knees up. Hope this helps. Take it easy, develop daily exercise and your rehab will be more effective and your surgery longer lasting. We've heard of women prolpasing and damaging just by lifting shopping, picking up a suitcase, or moving a coffee table. Develop the kegel brace technique and you'll be more aware of what you need to do the prevent further damage. Good luck.

I see I might have confused - the Kegel Brace is a technique to brace and hold the pelvic floor to stop the sudden pressure that could cause leaks, or possible injury, it's not an actual 'brace'. Hope this helps, all post and pre ops would be well placed to adopt this technique to take any sudden pressure off the pelvic floor/operation area. Mend well Ladies.

Hi Barbara. I would take a trip to your GP or local pharmacist. Explain your situation and see what they can give you to help with the coughing. I am 14 weeks post op now and therw are still a few things that can make me sore. I have no idea really but I have to imagine that skin/tissue takes a long time to heal and you personally have had issues with ulcers which will have slowed the process down. So it may be that the coughing is causing some irritation.

I have no idea what the Kegal brace (will research) but it sounds like you are trying to do something to tighten that area when coughing and that is simpler all you can do.

Try not to worry. The cough will go in its own time and soon but hopefully you can get something to alleviate the coughing a little bit. Let us know how you get on xx

I'm 14 weeks too and all was going swimmingly, then last week suddenly I have pain again. I can only put it down to having a new job with a different chair and a bit further to walk. I think we are all very sensitive for a long time. It feels just like in the early days when I'd done too much. Obviously terrified I've undone the op but what can you do?

I feel very irritated 'down there' like I was just before I got the ulcers 6/7 weeks ago. Going to try to see my GP tomorrow (if I can get an appointment) hard at my surgery.

I have a slight blood stained mucus (but not smelly) discharge as well.

I have been discharged by the Gynae clinic but may ask for a referral to see a Vulva Dermatologist whom may have more of an idea what is going on with me.

I was starting to feel better and more like myself the past two weeks and apart from feeling tired was enjoying being back at work. Now all I am feeling is dread and depressed with it all and once again wishing I had never had the repair done. 😢

I hope you manage to get your appointment tomorrow. Maybe you have a slight infection !? I hope you get some answers.

Stay strong. This is an amazingly hard recovery both physically and mentally. This is a set back but you will get back to feeling like you and without all the troubles of the prolapse. Hope GP reassures you everything is ok xx

Well just back from the doctors. Quite inflamed and sore looking. Has given me some anaesthetic cream rather than the gel I had been using. Going to refer me to a Vulva Dermatologist. What a job to have. You would not want to advertise it.

Haha !! You do wonder sometimes how people choose their speciality !!! Glad you got an appt !! Hopefully the cream will make you feel a bit more comfortable xx

Glad he is referring you as cream will ease pain noy fix problem. I have read on this web site that any of the oils bio or vit e or coconut oil are great barrier creams but not to use them til 6 weeks PO. But think you advised that how you got your problems. Think it is great that specialists are choosing to work in aprticular fields like uro or vulva but agree would be funny reading on your business card. Might look it up and see who comes up in my area. All the best

Well this morning I tried using the Emla (anaesthetic cream) for the first time and nearly flew through the roof of my bedroom. Imagine putting pure chilli oil on your bits 😲. Agony is the only way I can describe the pain. Not using that again 😞. What now??

I am really surprised your doc suggested that but it is what my doc suggested to stop the pain in my perineum area before sex to numb the area but mine wasn't an open wound. I found the antiseptic creams with the anaesthetic in them better. Didn't make me hit the roof numbed the discomfort and helped heal the sore area afterwards. I can't name any or they will not post this. But try your local chemist. I had a look and your big chemist which sounds like footwear has a few. Hope they help.
