could i have fibromyalgia?

Posted , 4 users are following.

i am asking as from online research the symptoms i have fit how i have been feeling.

My background has been that i have longstanding issues with back pain which i have been told is due to significant disc degeneration in all lumbar spine, arthritis in hips and my pain is managed by periodic spinal epidural injections.

However gradually over the past weeks i have felt generally less and less well.

I feel exhausted, ache all over my upper back and shoulders. My legs have become weaker with significantly more pain in left groin and thigh pains, so much so that going upstairs is agony.

My irritable bowel has peaked and i sleep badly, have dry eyes.

Needless to say i am fed up.

I wanted to know that before i visit my gp these are real and not imagined symptoms

Can you help at all?

    Hello Angela,

Could be Fibro pain, it seems to present itself in many different forms. Hopefully your Doc will recognise it and be interested in it enough to give you proper support. Certainly the sleeplessness, IBS and dry eyes are typical of this tricky condition. Wish you luck.

    Take care, Anne

Hi Angela, yes I'm sorry to say this does sound like fibro. I have osteoarthritis in the whole of my spine, and get a lot of pain in my neck and shoulders, plus groin and thigh pain. I have had ibs in the past but am much more settled lately. And I can relate to the sleep problems. First step as you say, is to see your GP, and possibly ask for referral to a rheumatologist. Another option is referral to a pain clinic. Mine runs FM courses. Good luck, let us know how you get on, you will find lots of support on here. xx

    Sorry didn't finish above....

My advice would be is to get professional advice from your GP to rule out other symptoms and confirm it could be fibro.

It can be frustrating until you get a proper diagnosis but do stay calm and positive.

    Gentle hugs wink x

Thanks eveyone, i am under the pain management clinic for my back pain. Due to have next epidural on 21st april. I have a set up when i need the injection i ring the secretary and she books me in.

I had the last one last september and try to put up with the pain as long as possible but the recent symptoms are quite different to the past back issues.
