2 weeks post op and using a cpm at home. My doc says to increase flex ion by 5 each day. I'm up to 65 but can't seem to get past that. It's like starting over every day. He stressed that if I'm not increasing, I'm not helping myself. The swelling and hardness around the knee is so bad that it feels like it will literally explode if I push it anymore. Feedback please?

Thx Jen. That's what I've been doing, but 65 is a far as I'm getting. Should I keep pushing even though it's so tight and swollen?

Hi Lisa I felt the same way I'm 8 weeks post op 2nd knee 12 weeks post op first knee. The best advise I can give u for me I took my pain meds bout an hr before I went on the machine and did 2 hr rep but increased every 30-45 mins. I started @ 70 and yes it killed at first but I persevered with the pain, the meds helped and I did it 2x a day. Listen to your body and try as best as u can to increase it, some patients it works faster with, don't try to overdue it 2 weeks is very early still in your recovery and u don't want to risk hurting yourself gl we are all here for each other. Hugs from orlando

Hi Lisa your very welcome it's hard at first but does get better with time. On this case it takes patience and I know how hard that is, but in time u will see a difference.

I know where you are coming from Lisa. My knee feels the same but I am only eight days post op. The tightness, swelling and pain definitely hinders the exercises to aid bending. I have been awake most of the night as the exercises I did last evening to try and bend my knee made the pain and burning worse. I just can't see any improvement in the swelling and tightness of the knee despite elevating and icing. I keep wondering whether to leave the bending for a few days to let the tissues heal a little more. I can bend my knee to about eighty degrees and I think I might just continue with the basic exercises.
It's difficult to decide what to do for the best. If I hadn't forced myself to try to bend more last evening then I may have got more sleep. I really need a good night.
I see the physio on Wednesday so I will be able to know more then.

Hi saralice at only 8 days post op u r so early in your recovery. I truthfully didn't start to see improvement until later. I'm 8 weeks post op on my right knee and 13 weeks post op on my left and I still have swelling and tightness. It's a very long recovery 6-9 months with swelling and up to a year for full recovery. Don't overdue or overpush yourself as u don't want to damage or hurt yourself. Definitely mention to pt about it but keep in mind the time factor. .gl with everythino and take it 1 Day at a time

I have yet to understand why surgeons don't understand when the stiffness and swelling are there you can't bend that knee any further . I am 5 months post op and still having the problem. Can't pass 100 on my flexion. I had swelling every day before surgery because of poor circulation and 2 heart attacks. Why should it be different now?The advanced osteoarthritis wasn't only in my knee. Just do your best . It will get better but it takes time.
