Crying?

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone else is finding that they don't cry at things they used to? I was really into this programme on Sky1 called \"Hello Goodbye\" which was about arrivals and departures at Heathrow and it used to have me in floods, but when I started taking Fluoxetine I was numb to it. I can't decide whether this is a good or bad thing!

Thanks

Carrie

    hiya

i've been feeling the exact same!! Use to cry watching secret millionnaire and there had been no tears at all! not sure how i feel about it but for the moment i'm glad that i don't spend part of my day crying. Not sure how i'll feel later though but i suppose you've got to take the rough with the smooth

    take care

    Hi there

I used to cry at everything. I was always embarrassed that i used to cry so easily, just couldn't stop myself but since taking flu i hardly shed a tear. It seems to have hardened me. Things that used to bother/upset me just don't anymore. I like not crying so easily but i do hope once i'm off flu that i go back to being silly sentimental old me!!! :D

Hope you're having a good day.

    hiya peeps

lol, some folks are never satisfied  sorry i had to laugh but you ladies really hit my funny spot, thank you (im assuming your ladies) brightened my day up no end !!!!! :ok:

but seriously, when we are depressed we tend to be over sensitive to a lot of emotional stuff, empathy is one thing but if it gets out of hand or is inapropriate i for one feel the actual pain or sorrow for the peeps involved personally, i get things out of 'perspective' i hate it :? it's not a question of being numbed, far from it, i think it's a matter of perspective, its not good to let emotions rule over logic really, is it ?? it's fatal to let emotions dictate out major decisions in life i think, we might as well 'flip a coin'

    cheers,

I can agree with all of you - I used to cry at the drop of a hat (quite embarrasing really) but now I am in control again and I rather like the feeling.

I used to get emotional listening to the radio for goodness sake!!!!!

    Hi everyone

I wish i could cry sometimes, just to release some tension but after a couple of weeks of taking flu i lost that ability. Oh and i'm a bloke and this isn't something i should admit to but what the heck!!

It is a double edged sword for me. One the one hand 40mg has stabilised my moods but on the other with so much supression of emotions i don't know myself anymore.

In there somewhere is progression, i believe.

I think this is starting to not make sense so i'll shut up now. :?

hiya all, I also can't cry anymore - just so emotionless. I too, use to cry at things on tv and other peoples problems. I hope people around me will understand if I don't respond with emotions to their bad news.

    Dear All,

Well I was a right cry baby, I cried at anything I was so sensitive it hurt.

Now I feel I should cry at some things but the tears won't come.

Also I can't express my feelings like I used to do.

Never mind perhaps I am growing up at last!

    hmmmm,

not to sure but i guess its a good thing. coz when u cry u r not happy or?

this is my opinion tho. tv has never made me cry b4.

b4 taking flu when i use 2 think about my life on bad episodes i cryed sometimes. it gave me headaches. but now im nowhere near that stage. to be honest, nothing much has changed in my life since taking them. im just happie :D

so yeah folks being happy is better than crying :P

    all the best

i sometimes envy people who know how to have a good cry. i sometimes think the ability to cry is an important way of releasing pent up negative emotions.

watched the BBC nature series Planet Earth recently (it is a truly magical programme) :D and i found the odd tear flowing, which i think is a good thing

sadly, as you have said, fluoxetine occassioanlly does seem to inhibit tears though sad

Hi All.I totally agree.I think that is a defo side effect of the Flu.I have not cried properly in ages. The last time I came off Flu I realised when the drug was out of my system as all I did was     I remember it feeling nice in a funny sort of way.It defo does you good to cry and release all that emotion.I think we should all set ourselves a test...we have to all watch the film Stepmum or something on that line on the same night, then report back if we cried or not.I defy anyone who is not taking Flu to say they did not shed a tear.Is it a good or bad thing to not cry??? :!:  Hope you all well.Take care.Love P .xxx

It's great to hear people feeling the same as me i also used to cry at EVERYTHING! Then while taking the Flu, i could cry if i was really upset but it really seemed to sort me out. I liked being able to watch TV without bawling! Sometimes I felt a little 'hardened but to be honest its more practical! Now i have just come off, and am feeling a bit weepy but funnily enough at happy things? Could be cos i've just had a baby but every time i see babies/read baby magazines i suddenly feel like i have the most amazing thing in the world and my son has made my life complete (sorry to get mushy). I am hoping this will settle down or i'll be a wreck when he is 30!

Hi, sorry if I'm intrusing on the conversation, I'm new to all this - I've been switched from citalopram (I think that's how you spell it!) to Flu and already a couple of time this morning I've felt like bursting into tears..............[/img]
