Cydtocele symptoms

Hey ladies,

I had a posterior repair in May and I'm wondering if the surgery has caused me to need an anterior repair now...can anyone tell me the symptoms? For the past couple of months I feel like I need a wee all the time, getting repeat water infections and I have a new bulge from the front wall ?? ive never had this type of surgery so it's not failed and other than my vaginal wall stitches coming apart and taking an age to heal I think my posterior surgery has gone ok. TIA

Hi I had front and back repair but sacrospinous fixation also in May (10th) and there's been times when I felt and still feel bulges/lumps at the front and sometimes ones at the back especially if I've been over doing things a bit and am pretty certain it's still swelling. I also get bulges when I need to poo. Re needing to wee all the time I always get that early morning when I wake if I'm lying in bed for an hour I can go 4 or 5 times but am normal most of the day but I've increased my water intake massively to help avoid constipation so it's maybe to do with that. I've rigorously been doing pelvic floor exercises 3 times a day the past 2 weeks and I can see a huge difference already as I can hold the desire to wee in for much longer. Hopefully it's just everything settling down for you but it is still early days. It's only the past 2 weeks I've felt anything resembling normal. For me personally, my main symptoms of cystocele was a heavy bulging feeling in my front passage and difficulty urinating because of the bulge and trouble having sex as it felt something was in the way.

    Hey Lisa,

I'm sorry to hear that. I was told that a risk of having the posterior repair was that an anterior repair may become necessary, as the rectocele may have been 'supporting ' the anterior wall.

It does sound as though this may have happened but difficult to tell from what you describe. I would get an appointment with your doctor as soon as you can.

    Good luck

Hi Lisa, I used to have cistocele, not any more cos I had surgery to fit it last November. As far as I know all the symptoms you describe match with cystocele's, those were the ones I had: budge, feeling of heaviness, need to wee more often that usual ( I did not have incontinence). In my case the surgery went well, despite of all the fears. Now I have developed a rectocele, just the opposite as you. I recommend you to visit your dr. Mine explained that it is normal that after surgery of one part, the other one is affected, the inner balance of the area is very delicate. I encourage you to visit your doc and if you need another surgery go for it, it doesn't have sense to wait if you don't feel completely well now. In fact I will have my op for rectocele next October. By the way, how was everything with your rectocele symptoms? Did the op make them disappear? Thanks!! ??

Hey, thanks for your reply, it was mentioned to me before my op it may cause the other side to drop as it could tear the scar tissue I have from from having my kids and something has certainly changed. I already had a slight cystocele but not to the degree it needed repairing but now my symptoms are much worse. I didn't understand why the didn't do both at the same time but guess my rectocele was so bad that was the main focus. Although my recovery had been bumpy I'm glad I've had it done, my problems re the rectocele have all gone, I can actually go to the toilet normally which is amazing!

I have my post op in three weeks so will see what the consultant says, I'm guessing I need to fully recover from this before they do anything?

Lisa I don't know eather why they don't operate the two things at the same time, I read once that it's to avoid adhesions between scars in front and back walls, but I'm not sure... The fact is that it is very usual to operate one wall and see how the patient reacts and then if needed go for the other wall.

I don't know where you live, but my surgeon told me to operate after the hot weather season (I live in Spain). I'm scheduled for October. Your words cheer me up, I hope the rectocele surgery goes well also in my case. I recommend to ask your dr when you can have the op, maybe a bit more time for healing your rectocele op?

I would agree with the others that once you have one operation it makes the other problem worse & you end up having that done too.

I had the feeling of something coming down, having to wee more frequently (but no leakage) and an ache. I thought it was a gynae problem but turned out to be prolapsed bladder. I had the anterior repair & hysterectomy 3 years ago. I was told at the time that my "back wall would need doing at some point" but he wouldn't do both at the same time.

Ever since the op I have had bowel problems which initially I thought was IBS related but it's the rectocele. In fact, recently I've found out it's a rectoenterocele so I will need more surgery. She also said the anterior repair needs re-doing which is disappointing after such a short time but I think my whole pelvic floor area is very week.

It's encouraging to hear your posterior repair was so successful as I'm quite worried about having all this done.

Like Hijadeonagro I am planning to have it done later in the year.

You might have to wait a while as your surgery was quite recent & you need to recover fully first. Good luck.
