When I went in you just sit and wait for a while and there's forms which need competed. My consultant then came to see me and anethisest who talks through what they will be doing. I was so nervous I wasn't taking it in.

Honestly then you get into the robe and down to theatre and before you know it you are waking in recovery hours later. It's amazing what they can do.

Are you keyhole though or open?? I was open so keyhole isn't as severe so process may differ. The worst part honestly is waiting but if it were me again get up and out of bed as soon as you can after surgery it aids healing a lot. You will feel strange when you waken and tired but by time you have 2/3 days over you it gets so much easier. Appetite took longer to come back for me.

Hi Debbie- I went last Tuesday to have a full hysterectomy, but the process is same for cyst removal. After signing forms you sit with other women in a comfy reception area where you have time to change in a curtained cubicle and speak to nurse/doctor,then before you know it you are waking up in recovery with no pain as they put a morphine drip on and then you are so well looked after til you go home -48 hours for me but 24 hours or even same day for cyst removal. You are sent home with pain relief and every thing you need. This is the easy part believe me. Waiting to go in hospital was worse. Good luck. Let us know how you go on x

Recovery time depends on the method used for the myomectomy – the removal of fibroids (non-cancerous tumours) from the wall of the uterus. Patients may need four to six weeks of recovery following a standard myomectomy before they can return to normal activities. Women who have had laparoscopic or hysteroscopic myomectomies, however, can usually recover completely within one to three weeks. Some patients who undergo hysteroscopy may require few days to recover. Full recovery typically takes two weeks. What type of surgery you’re undergoing? Is it laparoscopy or laprotomy? Recovery is faster after laparoscopy and you can resume normal activities within a day except activities and exercises which are more strenuous. After a laparotomy, you may stay in the hospital from 2 to 4 days and return to your usual activities in 4 to 6 weeks. You can slowly start doing a lot of walking, then some swimming and then riding and last to come back, running. Hope you get on well post-op. Take care.

I had emergency surgery 2 weeks ago and had right ovary removed. The biggest thing was gas they expell into belly and then they cannot get it all out. That can cause some pain. I had some complications following which. Was a bleed. I am starting to feel better after 2 weeks but endurance is low and still having pain. I am off work for about 6 weeks. Good luck with surgery. They do the same day but readmitted 2 days latter with bleed.

Hi Debbie - Hope your recovery is speedy. I had my ovary and tube removed a week ago. I am doing okay, started moving around after a couple of days. Came off the painkillers after 5 days. The pain from the gas, on my left side flank (left ovary removal) was worse than incision pain, it felt like I had a kidney infection, but it's much better now. Also, I've had constipation, as the ovary was attached to my intestine. I'm taking stool softeners now. Try to move around as soon as possible. Don't overdo it and lift heavy bags etc. for a few weeks. Good luck!

Hopefully all is well and take it easy for a bit and with the last comment constipation is a factor especially with pain mess take a colace or if gets bad milk of mag don't let it go to long before you have a bowel movement or can cause more pain. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Hi debbie- i so agree about the constipation pain. I just thought I would eventually go because I've never had problems before. I took senokot after 4 days which is gentle and on day6 and 7 had 7 'nice' poos and all the pain I thought was from my hysterectomy went! It's 1 week today and has definitely been the best day I've had . Good luck to everyone recovering or going for surgery. Once the waiting is over it's all upwards and onwards x

Hi Debbie - all I've taken is 2 paracetomol from pharmacy 3 times a day. The hospital also gave me codeine but they cause constipation so not taking those. Once you go to the toilet you will start to feel like a new woman. From having to be helped into bed and chair and moaning with pain on Saturday I walked along a local seaside pier yesterday(Tuesday)  and ate fish and chips(small portion) in the car.- wonderful!  I'm being VERY careful how much I do so will rest today, but ALL the pain I had went once i did a poo on Sunday morning- have done 7 since then all normal. The district nurse said to keep taking 2 senokot (gentle) a day for 1 more week . Good luck xx
