Daily crying 'attacks' for hours - is it normal??

Hi ladies!  I need your help in deciding if I'm going crazy or not, although my mom assures me I'm not.

ive been getting these weird crying attacks for the past year, just once a month during pms.  I would cry hysterically for 30 minutes and then would be so tired I'd need a nap.   But for the past month they've been about every other day - and sometimes daily.   They come on like a panic attack......I get a twinge of burning heat in my upper back and then watch out - I'm in a fetal position balling and making almost primal noises.   Once that 'attack' is over a lot of times I'll start crying again because the attack was so bad.   While I'm crying I physically can't stop it and I really feel like any moment

something inside me is going to snap and I'll go insane.

After all all this I'm literally too tired to do a damn thing and I just end up on the couch.

Im soooo tired of this!!!  I have a drs appt next week to see about antidepressants and I'm hoping that will help.

has anyone ever had. Anything like this happen?   Can crying for hours a day actually be 'normal'?

thanks so much for your feedback and any advise !

I have heard about these 'crying fits'..   My sister told me a few times that she started crying for no reason then the next day she was fine.   I was also reading reviews on a womens vitamin and a few mentioned that their 'crying episodes' have diminished. I'm sure it's all hormones..

But that's good that you have a Dr's appt. You may need a low dose antidepressant for awhile..

Tracy, I can't say I was srying EVERYDAY, but I do remember feeling really down and crying for hours on end several times.  At the time, I just I thought I had a good reason, so I didn't connect the dots with menopause.

The only other time that I can for sure tell you I had crying spells on a daily basis, was when a reproductive endocrinologist put me on a birth control pill, which was a VERY BAD fit for me.  I did fine in the morning, but in the afternoon around 3:00pm I'd start shaking and couldn't stop crying.  It happened everyday until I quit that pill and went to ne with a higher estrogen content.  (Not all woman do well on the low dose pill)

Hope this helps.  It really is obvious that this is hormone related for you.

Hi Tracy you are soooo hormonal normal. You are not losing it and you will not go insane. I went through the crying everyday all day for about 2 months. It is better now because I know that it is hormones. You will feel better soon. It still comes and goes at times but it does get better. Dont be to hard on yourself.....if you need to cry then cry, if you need a nap then nap. Its all about taking care of yourself right now. Things that I do to feel better is taking a light, short walk daily or keeping my mind busy. It will get better. I will be praying for you! Take care!

    Thanks for the feedback ladies!

It it was freaking me out that I went from having the crying attacks only with pms to suddenly almost daily.   Plus Ive been very very lucky up until now with hormones- I've always had very easy pms, and I've never been pregnant so I've never had any sort of hormonal mood swing.  And I think that's why it's been scaring me so much  This sh*t is bananas!!!

    Thanks again formyou feedback

      Hi Tracy, hang in there!

I too have crying attacks! Sometimes I can ward one off by keeping busy, but other times there's no escaping it. I wind up wailing in a puddle, sometimes for a couple of hours. A solitary drive in the country helps me let it out. Definitelt better to just let it wash over me and get to the end, rather than fight it. Kinda hard when it happens at the office though!

This did start with my other peri symptoms, but it took me a while to realize it was related.

Getting less often the closer I get to meno, so hang in there, it does ease up.

      Hugs!!

      Sara
