I know exactly how you are feeling mine is 6th may when I'm having ovaries removed at same time. I'm 39. My consultant tells me hrt is OK if taking before natural menopause and should be taken but that doesn't stop all the websites and media saying how bad it is and making us doubt what is right. I think it depends on what is wrong and how long you intend to take it for. I've been told 10 to 15 years and that freaks me out. What is it that you are worried about taking it? X

Hi I don't think you got my reply. I'm worried about menopausal symptoms as I have never had any before even though I am 49. I also want a choice on hrt and not sure if I will get it.  I think I want patches. You are very young at 39 to be getting this operation. Have you had problems for long? X

I have but wish I'd carried on putting up with them rather than getting checked out and being treated. I've got endometriosis which fused my ovaries and womb into one mass. Dr freed them all in Nov but wants me to have all removed so it doesn't come back. If you are worried you can always go without hrt and try herbal remedies but I would say you could always wait and see how bad they are if you worried about taking them. Yes like you I feel like all my choices are being made for me and I feel like they all looking at me like I'm mad toworry. II've looked at loads about hrt and patches seem to be safest for liver damage and breast cancer. Is there a reason why you can't keep your ovaries too xx

Well seemingly at my hospital if you are over 47 they take the ovaries too. That is in case there are any further problems and seemingly the ovaries can attach to the bowel and are then difficult to remove. You just put yourselves in their care and feel helpless don't you?  I try not to think about it   I had adenomyosis. It causes really bad pain. And the periods are awful. Totally affect my life. Be good to get rid of all that x

    Hi Poppy

I am 45 and having a TAH inc ovaries on the 9th April, I wil be going onto hrt but as of yet its not been discussed with me as to which one, im hoping for the patches but from what i assume there are so may different types its finding the one that suits you. I was given Zoladex for 4 months which in effect put me into early menopause,  which was very unpleasent with the night sweats and hot flushes so I will be happy to take hrt if it means not having any of those. Good luck with your op and recovery.

Hi Nicola. Nothing discussed about hrt. It seems poor to me that this is not done beforehand. Actually nothing has been discussed with me. Thank you for your good wishes. You will not be long after me. Xx keep in touch

Hi, I am 4 weeks post TAH , took ovaries , the lot!  Was advised to have all done in one go, but only if I agreed. I did , but when had the op, one of ovaries was stuck to my uterus, so would have all had to go anyway I suppose. I am not yet on HRT, am speaking to gp tomorrow, I am 47 by the way. I was told benefits outweigh disadvantages so will see how I get on with gp. But I have not had any major symptoms since op, only getting bit irritable but I think some of that is just being frustrated as still can't do stuff! I have found the effects on my digestion have been one of the worst things, constipation then diarrhoea , lots of wind, shall I go on! Eating prunes, drinking prune juice, taking fibrogel etc. but I can see that it is a long recovery and part of that is probably the effect of all my hormones being removed as well. So don't worry, take each day as it comes and don't feel you have to get everything sorted before you leave hospital. I have just spent the first few weeks trying to get over the physical effects so now I can think of the bigger picture. I will let you know how I go with gp. Take care, I know it is a stressful time and waiting for the op is no fun! Xx

Ps, I was told by my consultant that patches were best as go straight into system , not affected by other Meds, so you can tell easier how much you are taking. Also if not yet menopause age then will protect against osteoporosis and other conditions.
