Daughter just diagnosed, what next?!

Dear All

I can't tell you what a relief it is to find you, my daughter was diagnosed just last week after being in very non-specific, moving, changing pain since July. We spent a long time in various A&E's, our local doctors and walk in centres to no avail. It seemed that no one believed her, even I began to question it when at my lowest. They just saw a shy, quiet, overweight teenager who really didn't like making a fuss as an attention seeker. It got to a point that when she said she was going to call 111 or asked me to make an appointment I began to panic inside. It got to the point where the last dr she saw rolled her eyes when she came into her office. I have always believed her and supported her as best I can, but I can't make her better.

So when the final dr we saw on Christmas eve actually gave it a name, I could have cried. Unfortunately he was a little confrontational and in trying to explain to her that the pain management and necessary weight loss was in her hands, got her back up and made her cry! However, I think I have managed to get her back on track. We have a recommended diet and she has codeine for her pain, but our main stumbling block is exercise for the weight loss. I'm sure this is not news to you, but it hurts when she moves, so she doesn't want to move. I'm sure when she sees an improvement that will encourage her, but it's getting to that point that we find hard.

I 'enjoyed' reading all your messages, though it is sad, your upbeat attitude and encouraging stories alone made me feel that the diagnosis is real and the condition is genuine, I was really begining to get desperate, so on mine and my daughters behalf, thank you all very much!

And all the best for a happy new year.

Try and find a hydrotherapy pool nearby that just the two of you could go in a few times a week playing the music that she likes and just try to enjoy the time in there.

It is so hard to get going and the day after she might not be able to get out of bed but hopefully it will help as time goes by.

This is what I want to get into but circumstances have held me back.

Best of luck with the turn of the year being the stepping stone to get you going in the direction that we are all hoping for.

Best of luck from the Isle of Man xx

Thanks for your reply, I will try and find a hydro pool nearby, funnily enough our dog had hydrotherapy a few years ago, I wonder?!! We can provide these things for our animals but not ourselves, typical!

Maybe a gentle swim will help, and gentle exercise generally, as you say, the New Year is a good start for us.

All the best to you too for 2015.

Hi Curly....now it's been diagnosed you can start to move forward,,,it usually takes a year or two just to be diagnosed ..going to a local pool oreferrabky an indoor one..and doing hydrotherapy yourself us massively helpful..like Grahamme said.  As far as her weight gies.,,it's nit the worry mist if us out weight on because we can't excersise and the meds just make you eat more.,but. I was diagnosed over 17 years ago..it's great when you find out it's REAL..as most doctors tell you it must be in your head because they can't figure it out....that really shocking practise..makes many oeople depressed and have to take more meds...Actually many people with Fibro are depressed and have  to take antidepressants too-gee I wonder why.???.mmm

you guys have a wonderful new year..it will be I'm sure..,the hardest part if this is over...just need to get meds sorted ect...be blessed.......,Chris. Australua
