I have a 20 year old daughter that took Zoloft for about a year for anxiety. But she lost so much weight because of loss of appetite. She started to look unhealthy at 85 pounds from 120 pounds. Her doctor became concerned about her weight so he switched her to Mirtazapine 15mg. It has been two weeks now since she took her first pill and I've never seen her so angry. I have to coax her into going to school (college) every morning. When she gets there she is ok. By 4:00pm everyday, she becomes very irritated and anything can set her off into a full blown argument. She was never half this bad on Zoloft. Is this normal? Will these pills ever help?

I believe anger issues is pretty common with mirtazapine as there are discussions about that frequently here. I wouldn't know what to suggest as I am only taking it for sleep at 2.25mg.

Zoloft is a trade name for sertraline. You say your daughter was "switched" off sertraline. If this was done too quickly it could account for nasty side effects.

Yeah her doctor said she could just make the switch from one night to the next. I thought it was odd. It's been two weeks and two days since she switched up.

Sorry for your daughters suffering. Naughty doctor, he has caused a cold turkey wd from the AD, Mirtazapine won't cover the symptoms, only Zoloft can do that. I would ask for another doctor soon.
Mirt' is often prescribed for anorexia as it stimulates the appetite greatly, most of us on the forum here have gained far too much weight. Mirt' contains a sedative that may last pretty much all day (for some) and cause fatigue ... Mirt can also make some folk angry, or maybe hat is the WD from Zoloft.
I hope you find the answer, let us know, wishing your daughter well.
