Day 10, first outing in the car & feeling anxious

Hi everyone, hope you are all as good as you can be at your various stages of hippie life.

My hubby took me on a 2 minute car journey today to visit my sister (groundhog day was beginning to grate)! I got in & out the car OK (seat right back & back rest reclined) but during the journey, I started to panic that I would get cramp in my hamstring & wouldn't be able to stretch (instinct tells you to reach for your toes but I know I can't do that). I don't know if it was because the seat depth finishes half way across the back of my hamstring but I was tensing every time we turned a corner, it was horrible. I've got a 30 minute trip to the hospital tomorrow to have my clips out & I'm wondering if I'll be better lying on the back seat. Has this happened to anyone else?

I would put a cushion or two on the car seat to raise myself up higher. That may help.

I use a cushoin still - just because it raises the scar area away from the sides of the seat.

I never used a cushion in the car in the early months, but then again I didn't discover this forum until I was 5 or 6 months out. I will DEFINITELY be using one this next time around!

Hi Fernlady, no didn't have that happen, but I do think we all tend to tense up and get nervous about our first few car trips. I went on my first trip at 10 days also. Didn't go far maybe 10 miles each way, but boy was I ready to get home when I did get home. It was so awesome to be able to get out of the house and get some sunlight though. I don't know about trying to lay down on the car seat that may be too akward or maybe not enough room for you to turn and get comfortable. What about trying to put a pillow or cushion on the seat to soften it so it will be more comfortable on the legs? Just and idea anyways. Wishing you luck on your trip to get your clips out...Take care....Barb

I think the pillow to raise yourself higher in conjunction with the seat being as far back as it goes is a great plan. I had an hour plus to get home from the hospital after surgery. My biggest issue was nausea. I had to go back at 10 days and although I didn't enjoy it, it wasn't that bad. My small suv has a fairly high seat with plenty of room when right back. Get a pillow and I'd say stay in the front. Then again, what do I know. We're all different! ! Good luck!

    Hi Fernlady ,

I think a cushion on car seat will help, too -  have your leg at 90 degree angle -

My car, a tiny Fiat , has low  seats and kind of small - also ending midway hamstring - problem with sitting on a cushion is that my knees are hitting the steering wheel -

No, I don't think lying on back seat is good - the whole getting in the car, lying down, getting up and out seems tedious - however, if the backseat is wider or bigger, you might want to sit on back seat ...

is your hubbie a good driver ? just asking ?

let us know how you are doing otherwise, okay

    big warm hug

Thanks everyone for your cushion suggestion, I'll give it a go & report back later when I've had my clips out ouch!
