I had a good cry on a couple of days, when I had been home for about a week. Felt better afterwards and did nor cry again, apart from with frustration!

It seems to be very common with this operation (probably with many other too I suspect). Hang in there, it does pass.

Only when I was told I would have to go through it all again in January as the ceramic insert is out of place  crycrycry.

Yes, post operative blues very common, takes about 3 months and I think more common if you had GA. Hang in there does get better, I had it too. Of course if too bad seem medical attention but just know you will get better. I had to make myself go, I was starting to get agoraphobia, so make yourself get out and do things, I also took a quarter of xanax, just took the edge off without knocking me out.

I wa like that with the first one but in great spirits the second time around. The hippie blues are very normal and will pas. Just be patient.

    Hello

I was very tearful and had panic attacks for the first 4 weeks. It was so out of character for me that I just didn't know what was happening to me. I am now 8 weeks post op and feeling like myself again.

It will get better so hang on in there.

    Take care

hi Marilyn I have had lots of operations and with a general anaesthetic I often get post operative depression the spinal left me feeling not quite as bad.  Would have a word with your doctor if you still feel down it doesn't last but sometimes we need a little help

Hi Marilyn, yes indeed I did and sometimes still do feel very low post op. I feel that more people should be made aware of the enormity of going thru hip replacement as I certainly was very blasé beforehand. I saw GP st about your stage and was prescribed Amitryptyline low dose as this ticked several boxes, low mood, sleep and nerve pain at night. It is very well used and known to be perfectly safe and non addictive. I believe the low mood is due to the physical assault on the body, together with loss of mobility, independence and confidence. But that's just me. I'm generally feeling a lot better but not yet back to how I was. I hope this helps?

I seem to be sleeping well I think it is a combination of things because on 25/1 it will be 2 years since our eldest daughter died suddenly and have tried to get in touch with grandson but his father is ignoring our texts so I will do what I did last year is just send a argos card so he can buy himself something and as you say it's what we have been through with our bodies, if I may I will pm you with my phone no perhaps we could have a chat xx

I am 4 weeks post op. Felt very tearful after about a week for a couple of days. Then last week had a good cry. Felt better afterwards. Takes time to get back to normal after a major operation. Stay positive.

The first 2-3 weeks I did feel a bit depressed-prop being stuck inside and homebound.. I would actually have panic attacks late at night thinking about what I would do if there was an earthquake or other emergency. It helped to listen to music or read the blogs.... Sitting outside in the sun a little each day helped too! Be well !

I think our weather being cold wet windy, and being stuck in doors doesn't help, I have been doing my Christmas cards writing letters I find when I get up from sitting that the muscle is tight and my left cheek on bum feels a bit numb lol xx
