hi everyone

im a type 2 diabetic taking 1 galvumet tab in the morn and evening to control my blood sugars.

after the operation my results had gone ballistic ranging around the 1t to 18 mark and I was told it’s largely due to the drugs and anesthetic etc of the op well I’m now 12 days from operation and my results are still 13 I’ve lost nearly 5kgs am not eating carbs or very little sugars I’m wondering if anyone has experienced this type of thing and wether the results will reduce in time as a natural occurrence when my knee is healed

Yeah...the drugs can really screw with your blood sugar...especially any steroids that are typically given for immediate post-op pain.  I'm a T-II...  Monitor your sugar VERY closely and adjust your insulin or other meds accordingly (CALL YOUR ENDO FOR INSTRUCTIONS!!!).  It will pass...

As far as I can tell, your sugars do not affect the outcome of a TKR recovery.  I'm almost 70, T-II for 29 years and on insulin.  Just take your BS 3-4X/day, adjust BS meds as necessary. Eat very healthy, stay hydrated, take your pain meds ON SCHEDULE, do the ROM work.  Everything will get better in time...

I understand that it’s he sugars don’t affect the tkr outcome it’s the steroids that affect the sugar levels that you’ve eluded to in previos messages

I was on steroids for almost 10 days...had to keep my sugar levels correct else they went to 450.  I have to be careful with every surgery I have.  Just had my wrist done; forgot about the steroids until that evening...took me a while to get back in control.  Just another complication...
