Do you know what kind of test(s) they did?  It is best to always get a paper copy of the results if possible, just ask.

Graves' Disease isn't the only cause of a fast heart rate, but it certainly could be.  If you are found to have GD they may suggest Radio Active Iodine to kill the thyroid or surgery to remove it.  Hopefully they will offer medications instead. Carbimazole is used in the UK, Methimazole in the US or PTU which is an older medicine which may be used in some cases.

It's good they tested the T4, probably the Free T4, which I suppose was very high, but I can't tell without knowing the range the lab would have posted.

I'm on a high dose of carbimazole and propranolol which doesn't seem to help at the moment but I've only been on both for a week so I know it can take a while to kick in, it just seems to have all come at once hence me being a bit anxious about what they will do and this morning I've woken with a sore throat and another another headache :'( x

It is hard not to be anxious when you are going through so much but if there is anything you can do to relax, it would help.  Anxiety and GD are not a very good mix.  Would deep breathing help? or meditation?

Hi thanks and deep calm breathing does help and mediation not so good at relaxing with 3 kids 😄 ,the consultant was really nice although a little full on with information and saying stuff about memory loss and other factors but he did say my latest test was high and wasn't prapared to do surgery as he said the risks were to high at the moment as the one test they done was my brain signal to my thyroid and it was 0.01 which he said wasn't good and because of that my surgery for a supra pubic catheter in March can't go ahead and it's taken over a year to prepare for that 😢

    Hi rachy35,

I am interested in your outcomes.  I went to Urgent Care last week after two weeks of racing heart (constant never went away 24 hrs a day) and elevated body temperature with temors.  My heart rate was 128 as well when they admitted me, and after two hours of rest was still at 105.  My blood tests indicated hyperactivethyroid, but I do not know my test results.  I have been on beta blockers for 4.5 days now.  My heart rate has lowered but not to normal, in the high 80's.  My temperature is skyrocketing again and the tremors returning.

I am really scared. I don't see an endocronologist for 4 more days.
