Diazepam and ssri

Hi there.

I’ve been prescribed diazepam 2mg to help with the introduction of 50mg sertraline. Tonight will be my third night in a row taking 2mg of diazepam. I’m a bit worried about withdrawals and addiction. Am I safe to take it tonight? How many nights can I take it?

you are safe to take it for 2 weeks, without dependancy. its an extremely low dose. it will help considerably with start up of anti depressant. if you go beyond 2 weeks, you will start to become dependant. you will have an easier time starting your anti depressant. after 2 weeks, its a question of what state you are in, whether you carry on with it. if you do carry on taking it beyond 2 weeks, is that once your anti depressant is working, a period of 12 weeks, then you come off diazepam slowly, and you are able to, as your anti depressant takes over. taking diazepam for longer than 2 weeks, on its own, with no anti depressant, would be more difficult to come off. i started on 12.5mg, been on it for 5 months, and am down to 5mg, by reducing myself, as my anti depressant is working. no issues dropping at all, but dropping final 5mg may be harder. try with no diazepam first, if you get too anxious, then start taking it.

Diazepam is addictive and you are right to be concerned re withdrawals. Drs are now restricted to prescribing a benzo for 2 yo 4 weeks . Even then only in extreme cases. If you are concerned and you have every right to be please speak to your GP . Also Ashton Manual for detailed info. Beating Benzos, Benzo Buddies, are good sources of info. Take car. x,

I didn’t take last nights one in the end. Slept without it 🙌

Can you get withdrawals from 4mgs? I took the last one 36 hours ago.
