Did he give me type 1 through oral sex? Confused!

Posted , 4 users are following.

So I was diagnosed with Herpes but never was told if it was type 1 or 2 .. As it was down there I assumed type 2. I was speaking to the man I contracted this from arranging to meet to speak... He then said " I feel like I'm getting a cold sore but I'm not sure if it's a spot" .... Confused as this is the first time he had ever mentioned anything about a coldsore...

He gave me oral sex before we had actual sex and weeks later I was fine no symptoms nothing ... We had sex then it shows up 3 days after?

He is a drama queen and over reacts a lot ... But we have also kissed way before we had sex and if he had type 1 wouldn't I have caught it then? .... I'm sure he has type 2 but still need help 😩 If I do have type 1 down there is that worse than type 2?

Hello. I thought the same as you o thought I caught hsv2 but when I got tested it was hsv1 which is from oral sex. So yes you may have caught it through that. When they tested you they should have told you. When you have a outbreak next if you do get tested and ask what type it is xx

He could have both types or just Type 1, based on his cold sore comment. The only way to know for sure which type you have is to get an IgG antibody test that can identify type. This is both useful and important to know, so it would be advisable that you re-test.

Personally, I think HSV-1 is "better", since there is less stigma associated with it, even if genital, plus it typically recurs and sheds much less, so is less contagious, especially genital to genital. It also involves fewer key complications, generally speaking.

A viral culture on a subsequent outbreak may produce a false negative. A DNA test on a recurring lesion may be better, but if you have already cleared the window period (~3 months), which I think you have, then the IgG test should be fine. Do not get the IgM test, as this is useless in the case of HSV.

I was just diagnosed with type 1 herpes. That is what you get from oral sex. I got mine from my partner and he didn't show any signs of cold sores or anything. He said that he has never had any. I don't know if I believe him or not. I have it on the vagina too. Type 1 from what my dr told me is way better to have than type two as 1 goes away and he said about 90% of the time you don't have a recurrence. I didn't get symptoms until about 6 weeks after he went down on me. He only did it twice and was the same night. (Sorry so detailed just trying to help) may have been only a month before the symptoms so between a month and 6 weeks. I also kissed him and I have no signs of anything in or on my mouth just in the vaginal area. I have never had anything like this in my life. It is the worst pain and now I am still in the healing stage but towards the end and from what I have heard it is really itchy and let me tell you it is so itchy but still sore down there that I can't really itch it. So I have had a few sleepless nights. I hope this helps. That is what I know from reading and my personal experience as I was just diagnosed about 2 weeks ago

Yes, generally speaking, genital HSV-1 rarely outbreaks, maybe once a year or not at all. Genital HSV-2, however, typically outbreaks 4-5 times a year. But as the case with GH, there are always exceptions! Some women with Type 1 have reported frequent outbreaks, while some with Type 2 have next to none. Outbreaks or not, viral shedding still occurs, but this is much less with genital HSV-1. Definitely the "better" one, imo!
