Curious those diagnosed on NhS with high blood pressure did you ever get any follow up after first few meeting?
Think I was diagnosed about two to three years ago not once have I been asked by the practice/a GP to comein for a check to see if the drugs were working!
Now I do monitor my pressure and a have it under control, but the aftercare seems shocking to me.
Is this typical?

It seems from what you wrote, you got the same "treatment" as I did from the Dr.who first put me on bp meds. It was like..."here, take these". I didn't get any education about the meds at all..not at all. Then when the readings weren't controlled, I was treated as though it was my fault. I started out with 5mg Amlodipine, then he increased the dose to the 10mg. No diuretic...straight Amlodipine even at the 5mg dosage. After about 2-3 weeks on the 10mg, I had to come off because my feet & legs were badly swollen.
After a number of months, you should go back to your doctor; especially after 6 months. My current doctor (I got rid of the one I originally had) will only give me a prescription for 6 months. Once the 6 months rolls around, I had to go back to him in order to get another prescription for the 6 months. To me, that's good medical care.

My UK GP says that more than 30% of prescriptions are not taken.
All of our GP's and hospitals have notices about the number of patients not turning up for booked appointments and it is a huge number.

This is what I dont get , im concientous and check my bp and know whats good but Im sure theirs lots who dont and may be on the wrong doses. I would expect a least a review once a year.
I also got no education about meds. For the first month they did check that the dose was right and then nothing since.
looked onlined at my prescription yesterday and even the review date for this has now disapeared.
I dont really have a regular doctor, apointments so hard to come by you take whatever you can get with whoever (fortuanately I rate all the drs at my surgery highly)

I wish this was the case at my surgery. You normally have to wait half hour to hour after your apointment time cause they are always late and never seem to make up time through missed apointments,
The booking machine also tells you how many are before you, so its easy to tell if theirs lot of missed apointments and I very rarely notice any.

Most surgeries and hospital departments have signs up with the number of missed appointments for each month

derek76...30% of prescriptions are not taken is a relatively high number. Obviously then, 30% of the people are not following Dr. instructions. Also, patients not turning up for appts. is another matter also. Those persons have no right to complain should anything go wrong. You make an appt., you keep it unless something comes up where a person cannot keep that appt., but they should cancel to make room for someone else who may need that time slot.

At least you're checking the readings. A lot of people don't. I for one am quite guilty of that, however I do have some anxiety when it comes to those bp monitors...it all stems back to the Dr. I disliked intensely. Im back with my "old" Dr. for the past few years, yet there are some triggers when it comes to the bp monitors or having readings taken.
It should be easy for you to keep track of your review date. If you're given a prescription for say 60 days, with no renewal, when the prescription is dwindling down, this is when you should book an appt. to have the prescription done again. Even if you don't have a regular doctor, I'd be very inclined to do this.

Some not taken will be patients who cannot afford to pay the NHS prescription charge of £9 per medication or appliance prescribed.
Many or most of the items cost nothing like that but are prescription only and are all charged at the same price.
One of the few benefits of getting old is that they free. Others can buy a three month or annual pass for £29.10 or £104.00 too cover all items
