Different company same drug?

Hi xx

This is probably just a coincidence - but I moved on to 20mg 2.5 weeks ago. Was taking 2 x 10mg tablets at night.

All okay - usual side effects etc. But seem to be lessening.

But - today I picked up new prescription and I now have 20mg in one tablet. It's same drug but made by a different company.

Since I took it couple hours ago I feel really really sick. Headache and dizzy. Very hot and blurred vision. But not a migraine headache...

Anyone else had this experience at all?

Hey Claire I would suggest you stick to the same brand of medication

You might have to see you're dr about these side effects.

      That's ok smile

I don't take anything generic when it comes to medications because of this reason

Hope the side effect pass quickly

Every drug becomes generic when the patent expires, eg Viagra is now a generic drug, usually after 10 years all drugs become generic, hence price drops sometime by 500%.

    Hi Claire

Yes this certainly happened to me. I rang my pharmacist and explained how unwell I was when they gave citalopram manufactured by a different company. Thankfully they offered to change them and now I get the same company brand of citalopram each time I get a new prescription. People may say any company will make the meds the same. I found out first hand this is not correct. I was feeling like you are now.

Ring your chemist and see if you can get your previous brand and tell them it's not optional as this particular brand is not agreeing with you.

I really feel for you as this experience makes your condition feel so much worse.

    Call your chemist ASAP.

Let me know how you get on xx

    Blessings to you x

    Hi Claire,

Fortunately, I have been on Cita from the same source since I started, coming up to a year ago now. Mind you, until your post, I had not even considered about the possible issues with a change of supplier!

I shall certainly keep reading and watching to see if there is, possibly, a problem with one particular manufacturer and also bring this up with my Dr too. I have an open mind (when it works, lol!) and do consider the fact, as someone mentioned, that it could be just "in the mind".

Hope things are good with you now.

    Interesting post, thank you!

    Regards,

    David

I think its in your head, pharmaceutical companies never make such mistakes as they will be sued big time, but to help your mind , call the Chemistry for them to change the packets.

It's not in "you're head" this is what can happen if you take the same brand made from another company.......I know this because that's why I will only take the real brand from the same company.

Kathy you are absolutely right. This happened to me and it's a proven fact that the chemical in the coating of the tablet varies in composition from company to company. It's not about the quality if the dose of cit this is in all brands but it's to do with the variant in the tablet coating. Before people say it's in your head they need to research the evidence. My research, gp and pharmacist support this too. So 100% with you.

      Exactly right

I don't understand how other companies can make the same drug

      It's very wrong

Amd legally they shouldn't be able to do this.

They can once its generic, anyone can make only when they is a patent can only one Company make usually lasts 10years, in those 10 years the drug will be very expensive, The patent for Viagra expired 3 years ago, now Viagra is so cheap bcz any company can make it, its now a generic drug like citalprom.

Thank you for all the feedback.

I went to chemist and she said she'd heard of it before with other medication and changed the medication, after a call to my GP.

I called doctor and explained to him too - he suggested that it was prob me and my anxiety... Which if im honest i don't really believe.

But I guess I understand his view on it.

Anyway I'm happy it's changed and will continue on meds for now ☺
