discomfort corner of eye after cataract/laser

my wife had cataract surgery and then laser surgery to correct scarring on one eye. since the laser surgery she has a very annoying feeling in her eye that half a contact lens is stuck in the corner. she has been checked by two ophthalmologists and both state that they can see nothing wrong. Has anyone else had this and were they able to get help for it?

    Is her vision good though?

How long ago was the cataract surgery and laser treatment?

Where was the scarring? Scar on the cornea where cut was made to inject the IOL?

Maybe she has dry eyes? Has she tried lubricating drops during day time and vitamin A based gel just before going to bed?

No unfortunately her vision is not as good as it was before her surgery. The cataract surgery was a couple months ago and laser surgery about a month ago. Not sure where the scarring was. We thought it was around the lens but not sure. We thought the laser follow-up was pretty routine so we did not ask a lot of questions. Admittedly, we did not know that much about this surgery beforehand. The last Dr she went to has her using drops for dryness so your comment makes sense. She is not using vitamin A gel. we will ask the Dr. about this. Last Dr. we saw also suggested the possibility of seeing a cornea specialist which we likely do.We thank you for your comments and welcome any more you might have.

Her vision would be as good or better than before the surgery if not for this issue in the side of her eye which makes vision from this area blurry. it is like something is on the side of her eye interfering

      How old is your wife?

Maybe see a third eye doc?

I don't have cataract but my eyelid open when I sleep sometimes. This results in my eyes drying up and becoming red when I suddenly wake up due to burning sensation pain. This also gives me the feeling of having sand grains in my eyes.

Drops will help during day time but not at night as it just evaporates eventually. Gel is better when you are sleeping.

I am 46 and saw eye doc 2 months ago. She gave me Vitamin A based gel that covers my eyeballs. So if my eyes open in my sleep the cornea does not dry up as badly and Vitamin A helps in the healing process.

I visited doc 2 days ago and she said that 2 months ago my cornea was like moon surface, full of craters and had some scars. Now they are all gone and cornea is fully healed.

I need to keep using them though.

Although I've not had the experience your wife had, I did have cataract surgery in one eye and laser to repair a retinal tear in the other. It definitely takes time to become adjusted to your vision and the feeling in your eye after either laser or cataract surgery. In the beginning I could see the edge of the lens after the cataract surgery. It's been about 9 months since my cataract surgery and this "edge" no longer bothers me. In my eye that had laser repair, I know that I've lost a small sliver of peripheral vision. My surgeon says everything looks good, but agrees the scarring from the laser repair likely left that tiny strip I see sometimes. It is something that has taken me time to get used to.

Your wife should definitely be checked for dry eyes - I have this and it's annoying but I now use prescription Restasis (and vitamins) which helps.

    Hello James,

I read the reply you received from W-H about his corneas being described like " the moon surface." Prior to having my cataract surgery, I had a similar experience with my corneas and it really affected my ability to see clearly. I was referred to the cornea specialist by my optometrist. The cornea specialist said it looked like I had scuff marks on my corneas, caused possibly by several factors, including dry eyes, the bifocal contact lenses I was wearing and/or the fact that I had prior Lasik surgery. It took about 16 months to clear up my corneas and another 8 months before the dry eyes were cleared up enough for me to have cataract surgery. The cornea specialist prescribed Restasis at my first visit and he inserted plugs into my lower tear ducts to help increase the tear production. When my eyes were dry, my vision was extremly poor, and my eyes felt scratchy and like there was something foreign in my eyes. I had my cataract surgeries in August and September of 2019 and have a Symfony lens in my right eye and a Symfony Toric lens in my left eye. I am extremely happy with my results, and do not need glasses for any distance. I continue to use Restasis twice a day and probably will have to use the eye indefinitely. I also take flax seed oil capsules daily. (They were recommended years ago by by Lasik surgeon.) If your wife does have dry eyes and can increase her tear production by using eye drops, her vision may improve along with whatever she is experiencing in the corners of her eyes.

Hi James. I had an issue from the speculum scraped my eyeball just a spec and caused my vision and a feeling of something in my eye. Also the eye drops, regardless of what kind made my eye feel awful. Once I stopped my eye drops my eye got better. It was in the corner of my eye towards my hairline. I was shocked to know that once I stopped the eye drops after 6 weeks that it took only a couple days and I was so happy. I understand the normal 2 weeks of eye drops that was needed but not 6 weeks. Third opinions always matter. It is her eyes and that is one of the utmost important. Please keep us updated.

      hi

your circumstances are very interesting. it makes sense to me that my wife's symptoms could be explained by a scratch. during our next Dr visit i will go over this possibility. thank you so much for responding to our issue
