To qualify my statements here, I have "uncompensated Vestibular neuritis" and "Extropia Stabismus" my symptoms are feeling of light head and unsure of my surroundings, and loss of depth perception due to one eye not looking in the right direction.
I personally feel better some days and then I feel like I have bad days off and on. I have not had an actuall "spinning" feeling for well over a year now, since I leaned over to make up my bed and I had to lay right back down for a couple hours to let it subside.
When ever I stand up the symptoms are the strongest. Sitting is pretty much OK now, but it has been over 16 months.
Strabismus means that both of my eyes don't both stay focused on the same thing, like one of those evil charactors in a scary movie, my Left eye looks away to the Left and I lose depth perception, which makes me feel worse. Trying to keep both eyes open all the time and looking at the same thing is challanging and fatigues me. Walking is the hardest, next to driving. I do drive, but I am not a "defensive" driver anymore. I cannot keep track of all that is going on and if I get into traffic it is just about impossible. I feel like I should not be there, because I cannot "predict" when someone will need me to do an evasive maneuver to avoid a collision due to being distracted by all the busyness in my head, and quick movements and rapid changes going on around me.
So, Ups and Downs seem to be the norm from what I've read, repeated dizziness may be a sign that you need to do an anti BPPV maneuver, but if you haven't already, see a professional and have them do the tests where they put the mask on you and record your eye movements while they spin you in a chair and put hot and cold air or water into your ears. I'm no doctor, so I don't know exactly what is called for .
As for smoking: I don't want to preach, but I don't even know anyone who smokes anymore. Almost everyone used to, and I used to myself, but it made me have a cough spell in the morning and I figured I didn't have the constitution for it, so I quit. Where I work, we have had smoking cessation offered to us. It is something to consider if you are looking for perfect health, but otherwise if you can tolerate it without too many side effects, "sall right".
Hope you fell better soon.
Ben

i gave up smoking because the ENT consultant said it was a must to. I went away on holiday further down the road and started smoking whilst on holiday and had another bout of BPPV. Whether it was caused by the smoking i don't know but i don't think it helps the small hairs in your ears or something i read somewhere. Who knows?
