Dizziness and anxiety

Hi all! I am 50 and peri menopausal. About four months ago I started feeling my anxiety creeping up ( and I have never been an anxious person). About two months ago I started having dizziness. Not terrible but enough to always feel off balance. I've had an MRI, CATscan and been to a neurologist and brain is fine seemingly.

I went on a very low dose antidepressant and the anxiety was doing so much better over the last few weeks. Did accupuncture last night and today I am having full on panic feelings. Not sure if it is a coincidence or if hormones are acting up today..it's hard to deal with....trying breathing exercises but without much success....

So sorry to hear this Jen.  I am 47 and I have masing axiety and therefore low confident. I just wanted to hide form the whole world. Home seems to be the only safe place. But it is not possible to hide at home. I do get dizzy time to time but perhaps not as much as you.  I have considered antidepresant many times but trying to do without. Not sure how long I can resist though. Do you think it helps?  Good luck with your symptoms. Hope you feel better soon.

I am on a super low dose ( 5mg lexipro). I was doing really well with the anxiety the last few weeks but hit me again today so I'm not sure. Hopefully this is a blip and just today. I am also going to look into BHRT. Doing some testing this week and go in to see them the beginning of April....

I also have been having dizziness and off balance vertigo I have always been a very calm and patient person I did not understand the phrase i'm beside myself until menopause,

I have lots of anxiety, stress, and very little patients, I do not like who I have become, at first I gained about 40lbs but the last year I have lost weight, and also having hair loss, I think along with the loss of estrogen, also a loss of certian vitimans, I have not been any homone replacments, since menopause started about 7yrs ago, but I think im going to look into all natural remiedies first, along with vitiams

    Hi Jen,

?Yep i have had this too.  I am now 52, started feeling weird at 47, anyways cut a long story short after numerous visits to my GP then (with my GP not once mentioning the M word) I finally got told two years ago that i was  peri-menopausal.  I have had panic attacks and they are awful, first one involved an ambulance at 5am.  I just wish someone would or could have explained that this is what you can get at our ages.  I just felt like i was losing it.  After the anxiety searched for forum and found this site, which to be honest has been a godsend.  It has helped me no end and so reasurring to know that there are so many other women also going through, it makes me feel not so alone with this.  I take magneisium OK as i know it calms the nervous system and helps with papitations if you get them.  I have taken it since my early 20's after a competeing a research trial on them.  They work for me.  I also take Vit B and try to have a healthy diet.  So far if i feel a bit paniky i try to slow my breathing down as the over breathing floods your body with too much air so your body tried to get rid of it hence the panic feeling as you are trying to breath more and your body doesnt want it.  Easier said then done.  Iv just stopped my periods i think, so im heading still into the wilderness. xx Hope this helps
