hello so ive been on an increased dose of citalopram for 13 days now... and i feel shocking my mood has dropped significantly and my anxiety sky rocketed. lost any motivation to do anything of the things i was enjoying before hand. im wondering if anyone has gone back down to 20mg and been okay? i wasnt this low before the increase but holy hell i am low now, mornings are the worse with bad anxiety, i seem to feel a bit better as the day goes on.

please can i get some advice or reasurrance as i dont know how long i can keep feeling this bad for im a single parent of two boys and feel like im letting them down being this poorly.

How are you feeling now, have you reduced back to 20mg?. I went up to 30mg once and the anxiety was particularly bad. Stayed there for 6 months but found its long term effects to be too detrimental and reduced back to 20mg. Hope you're O.K.

Glad your doing better. It's completely normal to have worse anxiety and depression when increasing. I've taken all the SSRI's over the years and I'm very sensitive to any medications .I've never had to go over the starting therapeutic dosage on any of them except the one time I went to 30mg as I said. It was a good while ago and if I remember correctly it was making me too sedated,I didn't care about anything (emotional blunting), it was affecting my thinking,I'd be talking in a conversation and where normally words would come to mind as your speaking,my mind would go blank and I couldn't think of the word I wanted to say. Nothing major really, but after a while you can feel like a zombie. There's a fine line between feeling yourself and taking too much. The goal after all is to find the correct balance of chemicals in the brain. Sometimes I've found that if I go up, after a while of feeling myself again I've been able to go back down like to 10mg as a maintenance dose. Anyway,as long as you're feeling much better that's all that counts as everyone has their own experience on these medications. Take care.
