Does anyone else have these symptoms?

Hi, my IBS symptoms started 2 1/2 months ago just before my wedding (I was extremely stressed!) They started off as mild diarrhoea and occasional sharp pains on the lower right side if my abdomen, which caused me initially to think it might be my appendix. However, when nothing more serious developed I decided to wait until after the wedding and visit my GP.

Following blood tests my GP said everything seemed fine and diagnosed me with IBS. My symptoms seem to flare up if I am having a stressful day (which I realise is quite common) and range from bloating (particularly after my evening meal), quite bad gas, occasional diarrhoea but the most irritating problem is the weird twinges I get (mainly on the right lower side, although this can vary slightly - today its just under my bellybutton!) The pain is mild and like a twingy stinging sensation, its also sometines tender to touch?

I realise my symptoms are very mild and I am extremely lucky, but I was just wondering if anyone else has these twingy pains just to put my mind at rest really?

IBS and stress - doctors are finally realising what the problems are connected with. My IBS is the same all stress related! You have to feature in some form of relaxation in each day and take each day as it comes. Well done on the wedding!

Hi Pinky, I get the pain on lower right & belly button pain. I was diagnosed w IBS in April but I had symptoms since last year.

From March -August I paid a nutritionist while following up w docs. I was on a strick diet of no sugar, no wheat, limited fruits high in sugar.

It has taken this long but my bloating went away now from a gluten free diet. Even when I was eating healthy I was not eating enough for my intestines to move food out. I couldn't stomach any type of healthy foods but to get nutritients I started juicing veggies, vitamins recommended by the nutritionist.

I still avoid sugar, preservatives, and on a gluten diet. Eat small meals, semi raw veggies.

Still visit your docs & GI to get tested.

it took this long bc I finally found specialists that are willing to help w other symptoms related to IBS.

yup I'm experiencing exactly what u are I even thought it was UTI and got a urine test and it was normal a pelvic ultrasound and also normal and no appendix it's normal i guess to have such symptoms they are irritating and painful i agree

I initially thought I had a UTI but I tested negative.  I had an ultrasound and pelvic ultrasound which had to be abandoned because It was too painful. One doctor wanted to repeat the ultrasound and give me a CT or MRI to examine my pelvic area but another doctor said I didn't need these tests again and diagnosed IBS.

he's right no need for such examinations especially CT high dose not worth it really ultrasound is good enough

i had my ultrasound it did hurt but not to an intollerable extent

i had to take dulcolax 8pm and get my ultrasound done in the morning cos i had a huuuuuge amount of gas maybe that's why it hurts you?

When I had the first ultrasound, the kind you get when your're pregnant, they said they couldn't see some of my organs because of bowel gas!  However, no one drew any conclusions from this.  I wonder if it was a sign of my IBS because excessive gas is common with this condition.

yes exactly it's what happened in my case first day the Dr couldn't see anything cos of the gas but she gave me a laxative to get rid of all the gases

then i went back next day and it was clear and everything was normal my pain was very sharp at the right side so i thought it could be appendix or something in the right ovary but I'm glad it was absolutely nothing and the radiologist concluded that it's just my bowel and honestly when my bowel is free of gas i feel comfortable so it's probably just IBS

Thanks for the messages and reassurance. It feels like the symptoms are different week to week. The pain (or rather tenderness to touch) that I was experiencing yesterday just below my bellybutton is still there today, which is the first time I've had one particular symptom for 2 consecutive days. This is worrying me, which of course is probably making the whole thing worse!!

      Hi Spain

I have the same problem like you have for one and half year now. I am not only brave to do clonoscopy. Its been 4 years that they removed my galbladder but i never get well. I kept having pain in my right side and suddenly i got a sever left pain a year ago. My entire colon is in pain now. I have a sever constipation. everything changed after the galbladder surgery. i am not the same person anymore. Doctor wants me to do colonoscopy but i am afraied to do it. I dont like the sedation medication it scares me. Especialy when he told me they gonna use Proponol the one that killed MJ. I dont know what to do. sad

Can IBS effect the upper part of the colon? And can it give the severe constipation instead of dierria? Beacuse I am severely constopated and when I have Bowl movment I can feel it's moving especially in the upper left curve. I get terrible pain and pressure until it goes down and out. Then I get burning pain my pain eases if I sleep on my left side. So I don't know if I have IBS or something else. I can not stop worrying. I keep thinking about what if I have this or that.

I have IBS with constipation like you although my pain is not severe.  It took me three and a half months to get diagnosed and I had severe panic, terror, anxiety and despair.  I worried about every illness possible, seven doctors were useless, an eighth doctor recognised my symptoms.  If I were you, I would have an X Ray of your bowel instead of a colonoscopy if you are worried about sedation.  These drugs are highly toxic.  I had an endoscopy years ago and the sedation gave me severe depression.  I have no idea what they gave me, but I would avoid it like the plague!

Hi Phillipa, thankyou for the useful information. I've often wondered if it all in my head or whether I've been misinformed somewhere. My IBS is apparently stress related, but despite doctors saying this I've had little in the way of support for the stress side. My tests originally came back as inconclusive for ibs, then confirmed I had IBS in another consultation. I'm confused, I take ranitidine and Laxido only, but I still feel there's more my doctors can do or am I wrong? I've tried until I'm blue in the face - just no point! I took myself off Nexium as I felt awful taking them I have no proof but I think that is why my health has been awful for 2 years. I just would like a break from it all!

If there are any IBS clinics near you, you could try them.  They would spend more time with you and look into the causes of your IBS and try and treat those.  My IBS is also stress related.  You could also try natural remedies, the Fodmap diet or probiotics.

      Hi philpp61759

Yes I am like you worrying about every possible illness that I might have. It's been year and half that i am having this pain. You know some how this pain started after my galbladder surgery. They used gas in my stomach to blow it up and since then I have this pain. But it was not that sever like the year ago that it started. So sometimes I think what if I got hernia in some places or what if they left some scratches inside. I also think what is the dr damaged the part of my colon during the surgery cause I had a complicated surgery. I never had this pain before the surgery everything happend afterward.

In the mean time I am afraid to do X-ray with that liquid beacuse I am already constipated and i am afraid to get blockage just beacuse of that thick liquied. Then it's side effect scares me as well.

The clonoscopy fear is worse beacuse of its sedation the dr told me that they use Proponol to put his patients to sleep. And when I checked it's side effects it scares me a lot.

But tell me philippa does the X-ray with barium give the same result as clonoscopy do. If they do the equal thing then I might consider the X-ray one. What about ithe barium does it have any side effect.

By the way, do you also have burning sensation in your back and sometimes in the front. Do you also have upper left side pain. Do you feel your bowl moving through your colon and have pain.

      Thnx philippa

Barium enema usually has mild side effects of upset stomach and constipation but apparently these are short lived.  This test is an older examination and shows the same images of your bowel as a colonoscopy. But at least you are awake.

My symptoms are pain in my back and all over my stomach.  Sometimes, the pain moves to different sides of my stomach.  Occasionally, I get a twitching sensation but no burning.

      Thank you philippa

I shall ask my doc to give me a referral fo it again. So if this test will show the samething then what's the point of doing the clonoscopy then.
