Does anyone else pick their fingers near constantly?

For as long as I can remember, I have picked the skin on mainly just my fingers. I often don't stop picking until it bleeds, and when it does bleed, I like to squeeze it to get out as much blood as I can, and I like watching the blood run down my fingers and smearing it between my fingers. I don't usually like to wash it off for a little while, but I understand for the sake of hygiene I need to (or at least I wait until it dries so I don't get blood on things. Does anyone else get these feelings and go about their skin picking like this? Is this normal? Does it count as self harm or self mutilation? I just think it's a habit I have had my whole life. I did have a difficult childhood but I don't think it is related.

Hi I am very bad for doing this and my fingers and nails are a right mess. I have also started doing it on a rough patch of skin on my palm and I pick and pick until it bleeds and is sore. I don't like pain so stop then.

I have found it does help to keep a plaster on it so hopefully will be able to break this painful habit. x

I think it's due to anxiety. Your fingers could become infected which is not good. So if your looking to try to stop-- you can try keeping lotion on your hands or even wear those white gloves (some places have spa gloves) especially when your at home watching TV or even in bed.
