Does Anyone Know of any Help to Maintain Good Posture in Vehicles?

I'm aware that travelling in a moving vehicle is pretty bad for our backs, but I can't find any studies or recommendations on posture in cars. Can anyone shine a light on any studies looking at 'real world' posture in vehicles and how to avoid 'slouching'?

Hi im 23 and ive had this problem for years. When ever the car goes over a bump or turns a corner omg i after hold on very hard and push myself back to the seet then i dont feel anythhing. im feeling much better now as im seeing a physiotherapist so my is 80 % good.

Physiotherapy is of course a very sensible course of action when needing relief from back pain.  However, wouldn't it be good if posture was better maintained in vehicles so we didn't get back problems?

I know physio's sometimes recommend seat wedges to hep with posture, but does anyone know what evidence there is that this really helps?

Hey Yaseen! Sorry to hear that you've got spasms.  It is always advisable to see your GP as although 94% of back pain is mechanical,5% is due to nerve root pain and 1% have a possible serious cause that may require further investigation.  It is well worth checking to eliminate the rarer possibilities and get your GPs advice, especially if he/she knows your family history. There are lots of books and videos on ways to prevent and reduce/eliminate mechanical back pain.  I'll be publishing an eBook soon that looks at practical advice for car drivers, but it may be a few weeks away.  Google 'mechanical back pain relief' and you'll see a lot of simple exercises to do, but do see your GP first!

      Hi Yaseen!

I think your GP would have done more tests if he suspected anything worse than mecanical lower back pain.  Back pain can be very painful and it also can keep you awake at night and also affect your legs too.  I expect that a few good nights sleep and doing some very gentle stretching exercises will lead to a good outcome within a week or so.
