Hi there... Have have you tried changing your diet? I know it's a pain but I went from having a uterus the size of 16 weeks to 10 weeks in six months. I cut red meat, dairy and ate loads of fruit and veg
Lots of fish but not salmon. The idea is to cut the amount of hormones you absorb and we all know that everything has oestrogen in it... I think when you are desperate, anything is worth a go. Also drink bottled water..... I hope this helps. Jane x

It's very expensive to buy everything organic but if you can buy organic meat.... that helps. Leave off milk as that is one of the worst offenders. Try rice or oat milk. Not soya! No cheese. Eat lots of beetrbeetroot, avocado, broccoli and greens. Turmeric half a teaspoon a day and lots of water. ....... any help, I am happy to help. X

It doesn't work for everyone, I could tell it had worked for me as my abdomen felt so much softer, couldn't even feel the fibroids. They grew back though......and making some changes to your diet can help.

I started my first 3 month course of Esmya in February 2016. As you know after the 3 months you have a break, one period then start taking the next course on first day of 2nd period. After 2 x3 month courses my gynaecologist gave me an internal scan. A lot of my smaller fibroids had shrivelled away amd the largest one gone down from 11cm to 5cm. He prescribed another 3 month course which I am due to finish in a few days then back to see gynaecologist in March to see if shrunk further! He is trying at all costs to avoid hysterectomy as I am 52 and after the menopause they start to disintegrate anyway.
So yes, Esmya has helped me gain some quality of life again. No heavy bleeding and ghastly clots to the stage where I darent leave the house! The side effects soon pass as well, ie tiredness, sickliness etc.
Hope by sharing my experience this helps!
Xxx

I think you have been misinformed. Fibroids don't disintegrate after menopause. I have been told by two gyno's and I Googled to find fibroids can shrink up to 30% after menopause.
By reading on this site I can say that it might not even be that optimistic for many patients. It will be different for most of us. My own gyno has repeatedly said that their info comes from studying thousands of cases, but that doesn't mean every case is the same.

Hi Sandra
I have to take 3 months of Esmya then wait for a period. Usually 3-4 weeks of stopping. Then on the first day of second period re start with Esmya. So in effect you take 3 months of tablets then a break for 2 months. I don't believe in all this 'special diet' stuff!!! My gynaecologist is one of the best in our region and I have faith in him. I know with some people the drug doesn't work but there are many success stories! So chin up Sandra and keep positive!!x

Hi Glen I think it's important not to brush off the importance of a healthy diet with no estrogen causing foods. It's worked for me plus there is lots of eveidencd that it stops growth and settles heavy bleeding and cramps! It's worked for me ??

Hi Glen,
I also agree with the avoiding estrogen laden foods. In addition, our own fat cells store estrogen that we have consumed over years. Carrying additional weight can be the downfall of many. Which is why the hormone therapy doesn't work for everyone. Not every woman taking hormone therapy is a textbook patient that has ideal body weight and diet. My diet and exercise played a very important role the first two times I was on hormone therapy for Endometriosis. The first time round I payed no attention to it, it was BS as far as I was concerned. Then there was no improvement. During round two I paid attention, exercised, lost weight (I was 197 lbs and got doan to 140 lbs), ate right and the second round was successful and put it into remission for almost 3 years. And I also had the best gyno in Manitoba at that time. He didn't tell me about the diet and estrogen laden foods. My support group did. The results spoke volumes.

It's a shame that you don't believe in all that diet stuff!!!! I had a uteruuterus the size of a 16 week pregnancy and after going on my diet, they have now shrunk to 10 weeks. My gynocologist said it wouldn't work but when I went back 7 months later, he couldn't believe it. It's all about putting yourself out and keeping to it. I desperately didnt want a hysterectomy and at the time that and Esmya were my two options.... so the diet can work!!!!!!

Hi there.... when I found out I had huge fibroids I was devastated especially when i was told I'd need a hysterectomy
I made it my mission to do everything I could to try and help te situation. I cut out all red meat
No dairy at all... oat milk or rice milk as a substitute if I felt I needed milk. No soya as it is laden with oestrogen. Avocados, beetroot lots of fishafish and lots of fruit, organic chicken. No sugar and bottled water.... AND Angus Castus and Turmeric daily.
Hope this helps x

Ha ha... yes I know, It's a bit confusing.
My uterus was measured at 16 weeks. I went on my diet and six months later it had shrunk to 10 weeks. I got worried last week as my period was due and my stomach was huge.
Went back to docs who said they hadn't grown.
This week... after a bad period, my stomach feels great.... it just gets bloated before my period.
I desperately don't want a H... so trying everything possible to help.

I'm scared!!!!!l
I have read there can be a knock on effect from having a H... bladder or bowel problems. I would hate to trade one problem for another. ..
I have been discharged from the hospital now as the gynocologist has said they should continue shrinking ...i am now 50, 51 in April and hopefully approaching menopause .i just pray they don't start growing again...... Jane x

In the words of Dolly Patton sometimes it's hard being a woman haha! My Mum has had a complete hyst and says it was the. best thing she ever did 👀 X

There can be risk during Hysterectomy of damaging other organs. The uterus stays in place because it is attached to other organs by tissues. These tissues have to be cut away. Sometimes the bladder or bowel gets cut and damaged. In addition to this obvious risk, a complete hysterectomy requires Add Back Hormones. Which we females actually need for years after menopause. The overies actually produce hormones for over 10 years past menopause. So the need to take hormones is real. I have personally known women that were allergic to artificial hormones. Any woman that I have ever known that thought she could manage without taking hormones had absolutely crazy mood swings. And their family was going nuts. Another real issue is sexual disfunction in females. There is sometimes a lack of arousal and it can become difficult to orgasm. This affects a woman's sex life, self-image and mental health, sometimes leading to depression.
In my personal experience doctors are too quick to offer hysterectomy. I have had 31 doctors. The majority of them offered hysterectomy as a first choice. I was first offered hysterectomy at 24 years old because of endometriosis. I took hormone therapy instead. Then at 40 when the fibroids were found I was offered hysterectomy again as a second choice. The first choice was ablation, which would not have stopped my submucosal fibroids from growing. It would only have reduced my bleeding issues.
Considering all of the different ways of treating fibroids, I think that hysterectomy should always be the last resort.
A study on hysterectomies in the US showed that 9 out of 10 were not necessary. The first hysterectomy was done in 1856, that's 161 years ago.

As for my fibroids I am almost finished my first round of hormone therapy. My goal is to have the ultrasound treatment to eliminate my fibroids. I have not yet heard from the only hospital in Canada that does this proceedure. I am avoiding hysterectomy and will only consider it as a last resort.
